Lake Champlain is a great place their is like 90 miles of great fishing, it boarders the NY,VT, and Canada. Their are mainly smallmouth bass in the norther end and the southern end has some nice largemouth and pike you can catch alot of fish on that lake on either end but the south end toward Fort Ticonderoga is alot calmer and the North end can get pretty rough at times. I think they have cabin's for rent at most campgrounds. It's a really nice area to visit. If the rought water doesn't bother you the North end is great, In the fall you can get some pretty nice smallies 4-6lbers. If your looking more south check out Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia, it's down towards Roanoke and you have the blue ridge mountains in the background, really nice and big lake also. Good luck, Feel free email any quesions
