how long have they been there its growing on her mammary glands,it would of started out as a pea size and has grown Rather large by the sounds of it,you need to take your dog to a vet and get it checked out,it could be a cyst but lumps on the mammary glands are normally malignant,so yes cancer could be a real possibility, your vet will xray your dog and take a biopsy,
until the vet has done these things its impossible to say 100 percent, what it is

Hi, firstly can i begin by asking DP something? Why are you so f****** rude? If you've nothing in the way of proper advice to give, get off this site, idiot. Sorry sol90m, that needed saying! This happened to my dog some years ago and i'm sorry to tell you that it was indeed cancer. It's called mammary cancer and is common in female dogs of a certain age. She only had the one lump but it grew to quite a size before it was removed. Take her to your vet who will do an x-ray / scan and then determine how bad it is. We had a choice of putting her to sleep or having the op ( which can work out expensive if you go private ) so we had her operated on. Its quite a big op and invasive but she came through it ok. She was 18 when she had the op and lived until she was almost 20 so the op gave her a bit more time bless her. She was a great family dog and deserved that chance, she'd given us years and years of her love and happiness and we were with her when she passed away. She didn't have to be put down, she passed away in her favourite armchair and of course we were all devastated but it was some comfort to know that we'd done all we possibly could for her. You wont know until you see your vet so take her along for a check up and pray that i'm wrong ! I'll be doing the same. I wish you luck x

Is your dog spayed? If not, it's quite likely to be mammary cancer, especially if she's approaching middle age for her breed.
The only way to be sure what it is is to take her to a vet. Mammary tumours are pretty distinctive, they should be able to tell if it is with a look and a feel, or they may want to do a fine needle aspirate to get a definitive diagnosis.
Do not wait to get the dog to a vet, especially if she isn't spayed. If the lump is small, surgery and spaying her has a much better chance of saving the situation.
If she is spayed you have a lot less to worry about (if she was spayed before she'd had more than a couple of seasons) but still go to the vet to find out what the lump is.

Unfortunately likely to be cancer. Mammary cancer is very common in entire female dogs. Get her to the vet asap to get her checked.
If your vet suspect mammary cancer, he might suggest to:
- Take a chest x-ray to check for metastasis (tumour speading)
- Remove the lump
- Spay the dog to try and prevent recurence
Good luck

It's either a cyst or cancer. Take her to the vet so they can do a biopsy. They'll be able to determine what it is for sure and the best form of treatment. Here's hoping it's just a cyst.

These are the symptoms of cancer. You should take her to the vet right away and get the lumps removed and examined. I hope she's okay.

I would get her to a vet, it could easily be cancer (not saying it defiantly is) or it could be a tumour or mastitis.
Easy to get a diagnosis from your vet
No one on here can see your dog or diagnose the problem as we are not vets (well some are), and therefore please if you are concerned take her to your vet

Why are you asking on here? you should be taking your little dog to the vet and find out if it needs attention if she has had pups it could be mastitus! let the vet have a look at her if you cant afford a vet take her to the RSPSA they will treat her.

It sounds like it might be cancer. Take her to the vet and get him/her to check it for you. Please tell me if this is stupid, but you didn't tell us if your dog was spayed - so could she be preggie? I'm probably wrong, but with the nipple thing you never know.
