I'm thinking about colleges and what my major will be and I was thinking about being a nutricionist/dietician. Do you have to be in really great shape in order to be one? I mean i'm in a healthy range and all, but i was just wondering if i need to be a health freak about food just to pursue a career in it. thanks [=

You should be in decent shape to be a nutritionist/dietician-it will make your clients have more faith in you and they will listen to what you say.

If one is in good shape, one's clients will have better faith and reliance on their consultant.
Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.
Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.
U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry. It is however to be noted that one cannot change the shape or size of different parts of the body.

It would certainly help if somebody who is in a certain career properly spells his/her profession.
Personally, I would be hesitant to see a nutritionist who looked as though s/he spent his/her lunch breaks inhaling the super size Big Mac meal and keeps candy bars in her desk.
Last week I went with my husband to the hosptial to get some tests done. Two of the three nurses were much bigger than me, and I'm seven and a half months pregnant. I found the irony both amusing and sad.

No, you don't have to be, but would you go to someone who is very overweight to talk about nutrition? Basically, you just need to know about health, food, effects on the body and get a degree.
However, you should look healthy otherwise, you won't be in business long.

It wouldn't hurt to be in good physical condition for any profession. No, you don't have to be a "health nut" to be a dietitian or nutritionist. You just need to complete the academic requirements.
If you are healthy and in good shape, it might give your recommendations more credibility. A fat out of shape dietitian wouldn't inspire much confidence in their clients.

No, you don't need to be a health freak but if you're overweight you will be a big hypocrite for not practicing what you preach. Like a doctor who smokes telling you to quit smoking. If you're in reasonably good health you will present a good image to your customers/patients and you will be more believable when you start recommending different dietary changes to them.

No, they can't discriminate like that (I think).
But it would probably be impossible to get hired if you weren't.
