my brother lost his wallet on the way home from jail. he does weekends. anyways it had his social security card and state i.d. he is only 19 so he has very good credit. we are worried that somebody might take advantage of the situation and open a banking account with his name since they have everything they need to. or they will do something to mess up his credit. what can we do to get his stuff back and prevent people from messing up his credit.

Check with each card issuer, report the lost cards, and ask for new ones.

Contract the major credit reporting agencies (Experion, etc) and you could put a "credit watch" on your account warning people not to open accounts for you unless they double check with you.

first thing is to contact all 3 credit reporting agencies - inform them of this and ask them to put a lock (not sure of term) on his SS# ...so that when anyone attempts to use or run his SS#, he will be notified.

next go get another state ID immediately....it will cost a few dollars for a replacement..but he is gonna need some id and it is gonna take a bit for it to come in the mail

next go to SS and tell them what has occured and that he needs another ss card. this might be difficult without id, so take his birth certificate.

it would be nice if someone would mail this stuff to him, but chances are slim of that. hope this helps...

good luck :)

if you go online and email the credit bureaus it won't cost you anything. also let social security know so they can do something with your number. then contact the licencse bureau to report your id as people can steal these numbers and use your pictures.
