Is the attacks from brown people on 9/11/2001 and the war on terrorism the reason immigration became such a hot issue or was it already hot before 9/11

No why should amnesty be given to someone who breaks the law? Should we give amnesty to armed robbers? Or to people who commit fraud? And Illegal immigration was a big issue before 9/11 among citizens.....bush is just fueling fires to hide his crappy presidency.

Depends on where you live. If you live where I do (in one of the states bordering Mexico) then it has been an issue for years that has been ignored by the other 45 states.

9/11 pointed out the gaping holes in our border security and so now the other 45 states have recognized a threat that can affect them as well. Unless you are Hawaii.

It isn't just Mexicans. It's everyone that comes here and overstays their visa. Europeans, Asians, Africans, Canadians and Mexicans. They all come here and stay here without doing it the proper way.

The government gave amnesty back in the 80's which only fueled the fire of people coming here the wrong way. They figured if the other people got it (amnesty) they should come here and wait for it to happen again. Seems as if everyone is all for it and so we pick up the 32 million unwanted Mexicans and how ever many more from the other places around the world. Start collecting taxes and put the Democrats (communists) in power because all the people who received amnesty will vote for them.

If they have a clean background check and want to work hard for citizenship then I'm all for it. But we don't want their criminals, their pedophiles, and their 15 kids to a family.

My favorite answer to this question came directly from Senapuke Arlen Specter (PA). He said that our immigration process needs an overhaul, etc etc, and this is not amnesty, etc etc, that this plan would fix our immigration problems.

I was falling off my chair laughing because I DID read the bill and nowhere did it say anything about fixing the immigration problem!! And the rules this bill laid down were laughable at best. Do they really think someone who hopped the fence to get here is just going to up and leave for a while? Come on!! And had this bill been passed, the la racists would be stomping their feet like the spoiled children they are to be granted an amnesty like no other, and they'd get it.

Yes, our grassroots efforts to our Senamorons stopped this bill before it created the precedent I referred to above.

Anyone who says this bill wasn't amnesty is just completely a product of a public education.

No amnesty! True Americans wrote and called congress to kill the most recent immigration reform bill. It has always been a hot issue where I grew up (border state). After 9/11, it became more of a security issue and even more of a reason to stop illegal immigration. Now the illegals are migrating into the small towns of America (e.g., Hazelton) and all Americans are feeling the strain in the system. Border state hospitals are closing because the illegal pregnant aliens cross the border just to have their babies here. Schools are overcrowded and underachieving. Americans come first.

That is one of the worst questions I have ever read, did the attack on 9/11 by brown people,
That is a very racist remark, trying to include all brown people for the 9/11 attack.
Where all whites guilty of the attack on the federal building by a conservative neo con.?

The answer is the same for both question !

No to amnesty and probably not to the letters to Congress. I don't think 9/11 had much to do with this topic. This something that was ignored for far too long. I am in favor of legal immigration. If you went through the proper channels I say, "Welcome!" That's what this country was founded on. But if you snuck into this country and continue to thumb your nose at the immigration laws then you should be deported, not given amnesty.

There should be no amnesty for an illegal immigrant. They should be sent home with their families, and no babies of theirs should be considered, "American."

The attacks on 9/11 are separate from the Immigration problem, other than the possibility of a terrorist sneaking across America's border and infiltrating inside.

Americans are not 100% white. In fact, to be in America is like visiting all the other nations at the same time. We are diversely integrated and very much colorful.

Immigration is a hot issue because we have over 12 Million Mexicans illegally living here.

Every nation in the world has people waiting in line (legally) to come here, yet they are now in a longer line because of the influx of 'illegal' aliens who jumped ahead of them.

If you come to America, you will see an imbalance of Mexicans who are living on the streets for handouts, and draining our tax system through their non-contributory (no taxes filed) life here.

No amnesty the plan was to tax illegals income like a US citizen so at least they partially paid for the services they are now stealing. Also the plan was place all illegals in the back of the legal waiting a great paln really once the weork permit expured we would take you home and then you would have to have waited to come back legally.

That is not Amnesty it was a way to tax them and then have a record of them after we booted them an dthen the next time felony charges.

Business want the cheap labor. Both parties want
the votes. As a nation, both Rep. and Dems. need
to vote for anti-amnesty legislation and candidates.
If you really want to make a difference join this
website www.fairus.org. Good stuff.

This problem has been building awhile and we
need to get control over it. Also, we need to be
able to discuss the issue with being a branded
xenophobic or racist.

This is one of the few issues than transcends
party allegiance.

Illegal immigrants need to be picked up and thrown back across the border. They are breaking the law. They want something for nothing. 911 caused this great debate but Americans have been complaining for years about immigration. Immigration is hurting American born citizens
