Why stop it? I think it's great. I hate those cold winters and I love the water so when stuff starts melting they'll be more of it. Heck, maybe my house will be ocean front and I don't even realize it yet. It's so exciting...I love this global warming!

Unfortunately we may not be able to stop it. All people can really hope to do is damage controll. We can possibly slow the effects of climate change by limiting how much greenhouse gas we put into the atmosphere along with other methods but that may only do so much.
For us to think that we can simply stop the planet from changing temperatures is very egotistical. It is very tough to control a system when you can not regulate the input or outputs. And since we humans are inside the system it makes that task even more difficult.
How do you cool off the inside of your car if you cannot open the doors or windows and there is no such thing as an air-conditioner? Sort of a similar problem.
All we can do is adjust the variables we have control over and hope for the best. It might just be that we have to learn to adapt to the changes until we can figure out other options. In any case we should still do all that we can to preserve our future.

In the event of global emergency there are three things that can be done:
1. Iron fertilization: This is fine powders of iron that are dropped from ships (100 tons per ship) to fertilize the waters and create plankton blooms. This absorbs CO2 which then sinks to the bottom of the oceans. A fine idea for reducing the major greenhouse gas.
2. Sky mirrors: This is where small strips of reflective material is placed high in the upper atmosphere. The reflective strips prevent the penetration of the sun's rays and result in cooling.
3. Sulfur clouds: This mimics the effects of a volcano. When a volcano errupts the sulfur it emmits tends to reduce the earths temperature for a couple years. If that's so, then you can add a fourth way - - drop nuclear bombs on potential volcanos in the hopes that several will errupt and cool the earth.
Other than these emergency measures there are lifestyle changes such as reducing the use of fossil fuels.

You CAN'T! It's natural and cyclical......
I can't wait for the next cool down cycle of the Earth and all you enviro-whackos will be flapping your gums about how you single handedly cooled the earth!!!
Dana,
Why do you have to buy and sell carbon offset? Mr Bore really has you brainwashed! Why can't you just be a good steward of the earth and accomplish that for yourself?
You know, there used to be a time when people actually PLANTED trees instead of raping the landscape for a new subdivision. You don't need to PAY a millionaire more money to offset something that he's more guilty of than ANY of us.
How many people on Yahoo use up or produce even HALF of the pollution Mr. Bore does? How many people here have a $2-$3,000 per MONTH electric and utility bill? How many people here have private jets and limos to cart them from one enviro-whacko event to another????

Easy to do, but not too many people are aware that there ARE alternatives to gasoline. This one, below, is a vehicle that costs only 30 cents a day to run. (Its range is 40 miles or so, but not a problem, with a long extension cord that can be plugged into any electric outlet.)

The PROBLEM is people who are too lazy to do something themselves and keep on waiting for guvment or big corporations to "save" them.
The solutions exist. They're there. But you can't buy the "solutions" at your local car dealer. You'll hafta' take your gas car to an electric vehicle conversion outfit (several out there, good ones, too -- if you don't know which ones are any good, I can help you.)

There's lots of things. Int he main the best they will do is to slow down global warming rather than to stop it.
Stopping global warming, or at least the human induced part of it, would require such drastic action that it would be like going back in time some 200 years. The levels of greenhouse gases that we produce each year are many times more than nature can handle and to reduce them to a sustainable level would mean finding alternative energy sources or making very drastic reductions (nature can handle a 4 billion ton annual surplus of greenhouse gases beyond that of natural cycles, last year alone we overloaded these natural cycles 33 billion tons).
This page has ideas that we can all follow and so reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and also looks at larger scale projects that could attempt to reduce or event reverse human global warming - http://profend.com/global-warming/pages/combat.html

The most effective way to stop "global warming" is to sue "big pocket" proponents, such as environmental organizations and media outlets, to recover the costs of implementing their proposed mitigation efforts.

I'm going to plant some trees on my yard. The more trees we plant the better! This will help to eliminate a lot of pollution in our environment.
I'm going to line my yard with ever green trees, they will be so pretty in the winter =D
