Canadian police services always seem to make out that their jobs are the most important. They are beginning to sound like cartoon characters. At the end of the tunnel will we see the tax rates go up to give them danger pay? Police forces personel are not in the top 10 most dangerous occupations. They have a job to do, just as important as yours and mine.

I can appreciate the dangers involved in being a police officer but I don't believe they are the heroes so often portrayed at news conferences.
Society put them up on that pedestal because everyone loves a hero.
Maybe bonuses could be earned by those arrests that lead to convictions or when a major incidence and threat to life and limb is obverted due to their policing of the situation.
Otherwise, I agree with you.

Remember- PR is the opposite of news 101 [where the rule is 'Good news isn't news']...if they don't appear to be on top of things, it's harder to justify expansion, more cops or better equipment.

that is what news conferences are all about - all civil servants look like cartoon characters trying to justify their petty existences.
