It is for whatever reason, the most widely used verse. While it is the most popular, it is also among the most widely "taken-out-of context" scriptures.
Most had the view that God (the Father) gave up the Son(sent from another location, like heaven to earth) and while the Father was above, the Son (Jesus) suffered and died. Wrong.
Here is a quote from a powerful resource..."John 3:17 and 5:30, along with other verses of Scripture, state that the Father sent the Son. Does this mean that Jesus, the Son of God, is a separate person from the Father? We know this is not so because many verses of Scripture teach that God manifested Himself in flesh (II Corinthians 5:19, I Timothy 3:16). He gave of Himself; He did not send someone else (John 3:16). The Son was sent from God as a man, not as God: "God sent forth his Son, made of a woman" (Galatians 4:4). The word sent does not imply pre-existence of the Son or pre-existence of the man. John 1:6 states that John the Baptist was a man sent from God, and we know he did not pre-exist his conception. Instead, the word sent indicates that God appointed the Son for a special purpose. God formed a plan, put flesh on that plan, and then put that plan in operation. God gave the Son a special task. God manifested Himself in flesh in order to achieve a special goal. Hebrews 3:1 calls Jesus the Apostle of our profession, apostle meaning "one sent" in Greek. Briefly stated, the sending of the Son emphasizes the humanity of the Son and the specific purpose for which the Son was born."

TV is not a good place to expect the accurate application or quotation of any Bible verse. THAT'S entertainment.
Jude 17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
(sorry, don't know "stone cold."
I know a Stone Barrington, though.)

That which a human fears, he hates. That which a human hates, he seeks to destroy.
That particular verse sums up the entire purpose of Scripture and everyone who hates and fears the Truth hates and fears this passage above all others. Thus they seek to destroy its strength through ridicule and debasement. Pity there are so many writers out there who willingly stoop to this tactic. Especially since most of them are simply dupes.

Many(deceived by many shall come to DECEIVE) don't know The Gospel According to John is the only "verily verily" gospel account (of four), allegorically having two words (Law vs Grace) compared in John 1:1,2; And two Gods (Law vs Grace) compared in John 3:16,17; And two resurrections in John 5; with the last of such being "of damnation".
So why don't ppl post John 3:17 at sports events; For it PLAINLY notes God(Grace) did NOT send his Son to condemn(law) the world; Not this, but "that": the world through him ("through Jesus-->Christ") might be saved(only) by grace(only), rather than both saved + destroyed after as noted in Jude 5: as the result of their grace + law(addead).
The GRACE(ONLY) of our Lord J-->C with you-->all. Amen.

JOHN 3:16
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.
#1..God loves the world very much
#2..He took his son ..his first son...from heaven and sacrificed him to buy back with his sons perfect life...the perfect life of Adam.
#3..and what do we do as thanks? we have to exercise something......faith in Jesus...that he was sent....and that he lived and died for us......you can't just believe and keep it to yourself.....you have to put that faith into action. You have to tell others about Jesus.
#4 this is a requirement from God that we do as Jesus did....to live for God and die faithful to him all the while teaching others about God.

A wrestler and a cartoon show do not count as "a lot of people".
Read some C.S. Lewis instead. You need more intellectual fare for your mind.
