You know what I do.. When the dogs keep barking at something in the corner of the yard.. I grab the flash light and I go over there MYSELF and I take a look.. Maybe I am nosey, but I want to know what the heck is bothering them so much.. Rather than correct him right off.. Go check it out..Or get your parents to or whatever.. Find out what's bothering him over there.. Might be a wounded animal.. might be a burglar, might be anything.. But I would think that you would want to know.. I can't see your yard from here so for me to guess what it is would be impossible.. You are there.. Go look ! If he seems to be barking at nothing, and he may very well be just barking at noises he is hearing from within other people's homes.. Then correct the barking.

Either your dog is just barking at cars, people, or other pets or he just does it so he has something to do. Try playing with him some more and give him a toy or something that he can play with when he goes out to your backyard. Squirting water at your dog won't stop him from barking it will only make the barking worse and more often. Instead of negative reinforcement try positive things like I stated earlier in this paragraph. He will stop after a few days or weeks depending on what you use to occupy his time.

Dogs can't talk, they bark. The fact of the matter is you can beat 'em, treat 'em, whatever, but they're still going to bark at whatever makes them nervous, happy, scared...ect. A dog expresses its self by barking. I think your best bet is to maybe take your dog to a different area in the morning or perhaps take him for a walk, because whatever he's barking at, which could be anything, another dog, a cat, a plastic bag that is making noise from the wind...he's not gonna stop most likely.

My German shepherds do it when they want to come in. They learn that when they bark at a stranger in the backs it makes you come to see whats going on so if they go to the gate and bark for no reason they get the same response so do it to get your attention. You just need to ignore it then they stop but make sure there is nobody there. I can see over my gate from the window so i know if they are just tricking me or not.

Dogs can hear and smell things we can't. So chances are he knows something you don't and is either saying "Hey, I'm here!" or barking to scare away whatever it is. A squirt bottle isn't going to stop him. More exercise every day will definitely help since he'll be too tired to worry about what's on the other side of the fence and having him inside when you are home will help too. For times when you can't supervise him, a citronella spray collar can be helpful.

They smell and hear better than humans...have you been on the other side of the fence to see what's there? He may have reason to bark and you're disciplining him for something you shouldn't. check it out first. My dogs bark - I go see why .

Does he do it in the same spot every time? Try putting a large hole in the fence and putting some chicken wire over the hole. Sometimes they do this because they know something is on the other side but they don't know what it is. If you put a hole he can see through, he will be much happier. Privacy fencing can cause all sorts of unwanted behavior in dogs.

My dog barks at shadows, so I wouldn't necessarily be too bothered. If it's always the same place, consider taking a closer look at what he might be barking at.

My dog will also do this when I let him out at night. Usually, if I go outside tostand in front of him, and listen carefully, then I can usually hear what he is barking at.
If I continue to stand in front of him, then he will let me take over that "guarding" position, and stop barking. Sometimes, he will try to move arond me, so I have to shift my position back in front, so that he understands that "guarding" is MY job, not his.
