I think it is completely pointless as well.
People say oh well teens are 1 year more maturer when they are 18, but I think that they should perhaps make it, ' you can drive at 17, but have to be on the road driving for 6 months before taking your test, and you have to have a minimum of 5 lessons with a qualified instructor '
Something like that would be much better, instead of raising the age to 18.

I agree... but, it is sad that the government "has" to take such steps to compensate for the lack of instruction / direction / responsibility of the PARENTS raising these kids...
I got my license at 18 even though I was eligible at 16... because my classload was too heavy to take the school's driving course. My lil Brother got his license at 16.
We were allowed to drive to school and work... though we didn't get our "own" cars until we were 18 and could buy them.
The DIFFERENCE actually occurs at the statistical level... when you take a hundred thousand 16 & 17 year-olds off the roads. Health-care costs, Insurance rates, etc.

I agree - it seems pointless.
The existing measures are going in the right direction, and if they needed a next step then something like a restriction on the vehicles engine size would have made sense - like they do with motorbikes.
Call me cynical but they seem to be into social engineering - keeping people on public transport when they start working.

I know it is pointless for teenagers. But perhaps they are a good driver. And the main thing is that you got your license when you are 18.

i think it would be worse because at 18 you can buy achahole legally and therfore some people would want to buy that and muck about but if you have been driving for a year you would be moree sensable and you would have sceen the effects of dagdrous driving

I'd say 18's a waste of time, one reason being the cost of car insurance, 21 sounds like a better idea.
