I'm learning spanish because my congregation is kind of close to a spanish congregation (about 45 min). I've been to mexico and would like to take some time in a year or two and travel down there to preach the good news. I'm learning a little sign language as well.

Congrats on your language! Portuguese sounds hard. How may I ask are you learning and how often do you take the time to study? I've been studying spanish a little over a month and I get frustrated time to time but I keep hanging in there! :)

I'm learning Portuguese and French.
I originally started learning Portuguese after I heard of how similar the language is to Spanish (another language I've learned). I felt this would be an easy way to make myself trilingual. After a couple months of study though I started discovering that Portuguese is just a great language all its own that separates itself from Spanish. Plus I really enjoy listening to Brazilian music like Bossa Nova, MPB, and Samba and it makes it so much better when you can understand the lyrics w/o translation.
French was actually the first foreign language I started learning, before Spanish and Portuguese. I chose French because I think it's an absoluetly charming language which is very fun to speak. After studying it for about a year or two though I quit learning it so I could focus my attention on my high school Spanish classes. But now that I've practically mastered Spanish and am steadily gaining fluency in Portuguese I've decided to start learning French again and still find it to be a wonderful language.

In addition to learning each of these languages for my own personal reasons I also think that these languages will be very helpful as I am an International Business major. By speaking a wide variety of languages I will hopefully be viewed as an assest to the companies I apply for, therefore enhancing my chances of getting the job.
Boa sorte minha amiga. Tchau ; )

I learned Spanish in high school because it was my only choice for a foreign language class and I guess it's helpful because of the many Spanish speakers living in the US.

I am learning German right now because I have always wanted to. It's my minor now too!

I am learning Italian because I had an Italian class this spring, but only beginning Italian was offered; so, I'm studying it by myself now. I took the class because if I have the opportunity to take a language, I'll take it.

I am continuing to learn Danish because my granny's friend taught me some Danish when I was younger, but that lady passed away, and I didn't study Danish for a while. I started studying it again though, but I'm not very good at it yet. I just like Danish, and apparently, I'll also be able to understand both major varieties of Norwegian in addition to Swedish as they are all mutually intelligible.

Dutch is next on my list; I've already got some of the basics down, but I'm gonna focus on my Italian, Danish, and German for a little bit longer before I try tacking on Dutch too.

I am learning to speak Sanskrit.-Konkani is my mother-tongue and I know to speak Marathi,English,Hindi and
Gujrati.I understand Portuguese and French.I knew that
Sanskrit is the mother language of all the Bharatiya state
languages."Sanskrit is the only language that still exists in
all the states of Bharat in various forms"is on records at
the State dept.of US.I wonder what made Bharat not to
select this language as its National Language? That would
have made national integration much easier.Hindi is a non-
secular word and may lead to change of name of nation to
Hidusthan later.Satya Meva Jayate is with & by LAW.

I'm learning Spanish because I have to for school. (It's a choice between French and Spanish.) I find Spanish pretty boring. No offense to anyone.
I'd like to learn German or Russian because they look like cool languages (I already know a bit), and some of my favorite bands are German/Russian.

I'm learning Spanish because I'm half Hispanic and I love my grandma and she speaks it almost all the time, she's not very fluent in English and she's getting old, I would love to connect with her on that level because I love her so much and I would love to show her that I haven't forgotten my Latina roots.

I am studying Russian. I spent last a winter there and it was just as beautiful as I imagined it would be. I am hoping to one day read with ease in Russian. There is so much literature to be enjoyed. The Silver Age poetry is smashing.
