Isnt happiness just the feeling we get when our brain releases chemicals(i.e. dopamine)? If that is true, then isnt the goal of life to find activities that directly or indirectly target this outpour of brain chemicals?

Personally, I think that life is about two things: Contributing to society, and being happy about you individual life. Contributing to society is straightforward and simple; but being happy about your own life is the hard part.

If my premises are correct, can you please give me some ideas on how to activate the release of postivie brain chemicals, so that I may make it through today, and tommorrow, and the next day....

I find that happiness is partly attitude.

Through one of my senses I become aware.
My attention is held captive
When I am pleased or pleasantly surprised
a disarmingly restful or enthusiastic physical-mental-emotional response ensues.

A mind that is guarded and suspicious of all that comes your way, or one presuming an attitude of "I could care less"
is not going to find much pleasure, regardless of the stimulous.

The sound of a singing bird
a mouthful of warm homemade apple pie
the sight of a dear friend
the touch of a small child
words of humor or endearment
the first deep breath when stepping outside
the wonder of a spider's web
laughter and song
sleep when you are tired out
an unexpected kiss on the cheek given with a smile
the scent of a favorite flower
A car that starts on the first try
A stuck window that opens, bringing in fresh air
Finding an item's price is 1/2 what you expected to pay

There must be a willingness to find pleasure, wherever it may be found.

As beauty is in the eye of the beholder happiness is in the mind of the beholder.

Happiness is being detached. Not dependent on anything and knowing who you really are and your purpose in life.

It is very easy to be happy but you have to first learn th emeaning of what that means.

Buying a big SUV may be what makes you happy. But for how long.

Where as helping an old lady cross the street will give you happiness. Diff is. One will make yo ufeel proud of your actions and other will make you lose your sleep when you have to pay the monthly loan.

One thing that works for me is Prayers.
Also when you do things for others never expect anything in return. Do it because it is the right thing to do not so that you get something back. And trust me you will be happy.

Best of luck

Just experience what it's like to be here, whenever it occurs to you to do so.
Why are you so certain you're here? What makes you so certain you're here?

Just this will end misery and suffering. You'll become happier and happier.
