Dark curtains will keep a room cooler because it blocks the sun rays from entering the room, but then it is also dark so you will use more electricity in the day to see.

I think they would actually absorb heat and draw it in. I have done a couple of different things to address this problem. One is I put white curtains behind my dark curtains. The other is I made reflective curtain panels out of shiny silver costume fabric. It's great. It lets in a surprising amount of light but reflects a lot of the heat out. I then put another set of curtains in front of them so they wouldn't show from the inside.
These are my suggestions. Good luck!

your best bet is to purchase UV window film. The window film is made of small metal particles and will help reflect the heat from the sun back outside and will reduce the temperature inside. As for the color of the curtains - keep in mind that darker shades draw more heat than lighter ones. Why not opt for black out blinds in White or beige (or any light color). You'll notice a big difference!

They would make it cooler than probably not having curtains, but hotter than light colored or white curtains. The lighter a color is; the more it reflects light. The more it reflects light, the cooler it will keep your house.

No!
You can get light colored curtains that block out the light, and do not absorb the radiant heat like the dark ones do.

They do, but you don't have to get dark curtains. Lined panels do just as good a job as blocking the light.
