Cabrón is a b a s t a r d. It's a terrible insult!
Cabronísima merely intensifies it.
You often hear it with "pinche" = g o d d a m n.
Here is a link for some Mexican slang words:

I know a few you might hear:
Chante= house (i.e., shanty)
chantarse = casarse.
jefe = father
jefa = mother
la jura= the cops
la chirola = el cárcel
fuímonos = vámonos.

Maybe your friend was referring to "a super-cool thing", or if he was talking about a person, he meant "a very inteligent or capable person", or it really was only an insult... I'm mexican.

The word cabron means he-goat. Cabronisima is akin to " why you she/he goat!" or simply... Beatch!

Shame on this fellow. Tell him next time he calls you a name, you'll take away his green card. Or better yet, give me a holla, we'll both take away his green card.
