Will it make a big crack or just a tiny crack from which part it was fired in to?

But..isn't Diamond brittle? Like, brittle enough to break if smashed by a titanium jackhammer really really hard. So, wouldn't a bullet (let's just say a silver bullet), which has more piercing and breaking force compared to a titanium jackhammer strong swing be enough to break diaond or something?

you ever watch a diamond cutter split a diamond? he takes a
rather dull-looking blade to the stone, and he TAPS it with a little hammer- done deal.

So- your answer might be all you have left is diamond dust.

Diamonds are hard, but not indestructible. But I would believe that the diamond would at least crack if not chip major chunks off. It also depends on the bullet, what it's made of as well as the thickness of the diamond. But a small object flying over 3 times the speed of sound (2283 mph) that strikes an object that isn't moving would make a nice crater if not breaking the diamond, but then again, why would want to do that to a diamond? So YES is your answer.

Diamonds are one of the hardest substances in this world.A sniper bullet is usually made of lead which has a relative hardness of 1.5. Diamond sits at the top with a relative hardness of 10. This is the highest a substance can go. Unless your bullet is amde of diamond, the diamond you are trying to pierce/crack/break would be left flawless

Most conventional sniper rifles will not pierce a diamond, but...

The Steyr IWS 2000 can penetrate through 40mm of tank armor from 1000 meters away. So maybe some of the sniper rifles can.

veying for the odd question on Yahoo?

Yes, if hit correctly a diamond will shatter. Not chip, shatter. it doesn't take a hi caliber, one could do it with a pellet gun, hammer..

A diamond is pure carbon, it is not resistant to shock.

I would think so. You take a .50 cal round, which is like a freakin tank round, and fire it at something at 2700 feet per second, its going to do some kinda damage, no matter what it is. Good idea, lets try it. First, we have to find a reallly big diamond.....and give it to me. haha

If I had a Diamond as big as a arm bone would not go around shooting it. I'd call DeBeers!

definitely not. a sniper rifle cant even go through a helmet made of thick iron how is it going to go through a diamond. did you know army men would prefer wearing diamonds in a war. It might just save them

Yes, I agree with mr. randkll! Although diamonds are one of the hardest substances known, that doesn't mean they are neciseciallary strong! I think any bullet would destroy it!

Diamonds have multiple cleavage planes....they can shatter easily with one misplaced or mistruck blow from a 1.5 ounce jeweler's hammer. They are very hard....they *AREN'T* very strong. A rifle shot would turn one to dust.
