IMO, there's not many things you cannot kill with a well placed shot... even smaller caliber rounds like the .223. However, if you are hunting large feral hogs, it may take you more than one shot to put them down for good.

Without doubt the .223 will take most any Hog, Ferrel or otherwise with a well placed head shot using this caliber. Your range of 100 meters is well within a range the .223 can handle easily. I would just suggest that if you are to make a body shot instead of a head shot you should consider a hollow point round over a jacketed soft point. My experiences have been they don't go very far if you give them 10 minutes or so after a good hit and just let them expire without pushing the pig away from you farther by pressuring him after you hit him. Also be aware that pigs have that leather like heavy skin "plate" on either side protecting their organs in the front and to take him down you must penetrate that heavy skin "plate" to get into their vital organs. Personally, I've killed many with this caliber and it works well for me. I haven't lost one yet. Good Luck!

Sure, a good hit will but... The .223 is not really a hunting round especially for large pigs. The .223/5.56 was designed to disable enemy soldiers, not necessarily kill them, thereby inflicting more loses on the enemy by using up their resources carrying the wounded off the battle field, tending to them and caring for them after wards. People want to use these minuscule calibers on everything from coyote to deer to 400 lb. feral hogs citing, 'well if the army uses them they must be ok...' but properly the .223 is a varmint caliber, not a big game gun. For heavy critters like feral pigs use the right caliber. A .308 (7.62x51 NATO) comes to mind, if you just like military calibers.
Best.

If you are rifleman enough for perfect placement every time, yeah. It will work. Not what I'd recommend, but it will work.
If you are not a master marksman, use a bigger caliber, cause if you smack that hog in the shoulder with a .223 bullet from 100 yards or more away, you will probably never see that pig again.

yes, from 100 meters away it will work. the .223 will hold its energy for over 400 yards to be able to kill coyote sized game. a .223 will work for pigs within 100 meters, easily.

Make sure your will is up to date if you are going to shoot a pig with a 223. Also, you had better get a good pair of running shoes and break them in before you go hunting; you honk off one of those babies and you may set a new record for the hundred yard sprint!!!!!

I use a .243. I think your .223 would work. Especially with a well placed shot.
