He was taken from my yard on MothersnDay and was found on July 20th, but now he has patches of baldness on his hind legs. When I got him back he was loaded with fleas and had a bad rash on his belly, I do believe, due to the fleas. I have gotten rid of the fleas and rash, but now am baffled on how to get rid or actually get his coat back. If you have a suggestion PLEASE let me know. He does not seem to be scratching like he was when he got back home. There is no redness or swelling at the bald spots and he does not seem to be in any discomfort i.e. pain, itching.

After moving to the south, I learned a lot of home remedies, most of which work well. Before I could afford a vet bill, someone told me to put motor oil on my dog who had mange. It worked like a charm.

Bathe the dog, then coat the motor oil on the dog. Do this every three or four days. It will go away in about a week or so.

Does this look like mange? Or do you just think he has mange because of the bald spots?? Have you thought that the fleas might of been the problem? Go to the vet and have a check up anyway, to see if he is alright. I doubt he has mange. He probably has bald spots from a bad flea allergy and will need some TLC.

you're dog was gone for quite some time. wonderful you got him back. sad you didn't take him to the vet to be checked when you did. he could have other problems going on too. that is a long time to be gone. the bald spots could be from the fleas, it could be mange or a number of things. if you are a responsible owner you need to take your dog and get him medical attention. a simple exam is not that expensive and you will know what's going on with him and know how much and what it's going to take to help your dog. why keep guessing? it's not fair to your dog.

If there is no itching, then it probably isn't mange, however you need to have a vet do a skin scrape to be sure. The bald spots may or may not grow back with time. I would feed him a dieet fairly high in protein and Omega 3 fatty acids to see if that helps with his hair regrowth. Otherwise it would be wise to check with your vet.

Do not put motor oil on your dog! It is potentially toxic if ingested. If you do this be prepared to spend even more money on IV fluids and hospitalization. Make sure you tell your vet you were trying to save money by posting a problem on a website instead just getting the skin checked in the first place.

He needs a vet check to find out if he has mange and if so which kind, one of them, Sarcoptic is contagious to people and other dogs. Ivomec is the cheapest way to get rid of Demodex mange.

Well i have heard that burnt motor oil will help. My dog had mange and i couldn't afford the vet bill, i put Vaseline on her and it seemed to clear it up!! I think as long as you have something like that on them it kinda smoother's it away!

There are good homeopathic remedies for such a condition. Also try Rescue Remedy cream locally.
