Let me say first that I am not a big Harry Potter fan.

From what I see though, kids LOVE it. So my question is, why would you deprive your child of reading something that they will enjoy? Fantasy is wonderful for a child's mind, for their imagination and creativity. What is so evil about it?

You can tell your child about burning in hell for eternity with the devil. You can tell them about Jesus being nailed to a cross. If they can handle that then why can't they handle a great children's book?

Don't you think that that's going a little to far? It's one thing not letting them watch MTV. I'm no where near religious and I refuse to get cable because I don't want my son watching MTV or a number of other channels and shows on television.

I'm just wondering, what harm will Harry Potter do to your child?

The best thing that your child can do is read. Jesus isn't going to make them smart and get them good grades, even though I bet you think that.

My two eldest children (6 and 4) play it and watch it, but aren't at the reading stage yet. I figure it is like the way I viewed G-force (Battle of the Planets) as a child. I imagined I was a hero, powerful, etc... and that helped me to have dreams.

I never actually thought that I could fly.

I doubt my kids will ever think they can point a stick at things, say a magic word and have those things move.

But I hope it will give them dreams to do great things... and help improve their literacy as well.

Added: I have a friend who is a witch. I can tell you that Harry Potter does nothing that is similar to real witchraft. There is no correlation. Personally, I think Jesus did more magical things (like Harry Potter) than what modern-day witches can do. If the kids grow up wishing they could have power's like Harry Potter, there is no-where else that they can get power's like that except from Jesus.

Apparently, you already have your convictions about Christians and your opinions on things, so why bother asking the question?

Teach your children what you like, let them do what you think they should do, and don't worry about what other parents are doing with their children. It's none of your business.

Will reading Harry Potter books harm the children? Maybe, and maybe not.

Will DENYING the children the Harry Potter books harm the children? No more than letting them read them would.

Who are you to question what values other people raise their children with?

Get cable and mind your own business.

Because like MTV, Harry Potter books are demonic in nature and deal with witchcraft.

Our job as parents is to shield our kids from evil.

It's probable to invest a lot of time and income searching for ways to train your kids how to read and improve their reading skills. Is difficult to instruct a small kid how to read, and actually alluring them to learn is challenging in itself. However it does not have to be this way when you got the help of this program https://tr.im/CUuGs , Children Learning Reading program.
With Children Learning Reading you can show your son or daughter how to separate sounds and break phrases in to phonemes, a vital thing whenever your child is just learning to spell.
The studying program from Children Learning Reading program allows you for children to see easily and effectively, from easy phrases to sentences until they learn to see stories.

I agree with Mrs. Fabulous. Harry Potter advocates witchcraft, and my kid sure ain't gettin into that crap!! We tell our children about Heaven and hell because when we die we will spend our eternity in one or the other. And knowing about Jesus WILL help them to get good grades, cause they have to know how to read to be able to read the Bible........duh!!

this sort of thing is one of those issues that I find amusing, because those who are getting most up in arms on an issue, frequently are the very ones who have the most trouble with the issues that they are trying to avoid.

for example, with video games, saying they are realistic, or whatnot. the kids playing them, in general, have no problem knowing its not real.

what is scary I think are the people who are not only that fanatical, but think that harry potter is based on real witchcraft in more than the most vague, generalized sense.

oh by the way, they have this nifty thing called parental controls, so you can lock down offensive channels, and not be able to view them without using a pass key.

Parents all over the world make choices for the emotional and spiritual well being of their children.
This is only right.
There is glorification of witchcraft and witchcraft rituals in that particular piece of "literature" and some do not choose to expose their innocent children to it.

well that's a interesting topic and personal opinion. Personally I think Harry Potter is stupid but it's a personal opinion. It's witchcraft and I wouldn't let my child read it. On the other hand reading the bible may not get my child good grades, but having Jesus on their side will get them eternal life.
