There is Hades - Sheol (A place of torment) = this is where all the unrighteous old testament people went. Presently, those that knowingly reject Jesus, or accept other "gods" in lieu of Jesus go there. It is described in the story of the Rich man and Lazarus.

Hades- Paradise (where the Old Testament Saints and the robber on the Cross went). Again, described in the story of the Rich man and Lazarus.

Hell (the lake of fire) - it is empty right now. It will be filled with the people that are in Hades-Sheol after God judges them. Satan and the False prophet will also be sent there.

Sheol, hades and hell are basically the same thing. "hell" is english, "sheol" is Hebrew, "hades" is Greek.
