first of all - parole is not being let out early for good behavior - it is a period of extended supervision -after the prison time is served. The jail time and amount of parole time is determined by the judge before the person is even sent to prison. So good behavior has nothing to do with that. I think being let out early for good behavior should happen depending on the case. However, alot of states are turning to "truth in sentencing" which means no time off for good behavior - you serve the sentence you were given. To answer your question - because the government gets anywhere from $55,000 yr to $100,000 a yr to house a prisoner. All prisons and Jails every where are overcrowded with people who should not be there at all or at the very least have much shorter sentences - making them more $$$. letting them out on parole would take away millions of $$ a yr per state in revenue. And result in less government jobs and lower pay for the Governor, the mayor the public officials the prison wardens, guards....... that is why they are doing away with parole. to keep making $$...

All states should abolish parole. Why should a convict get out early for good behavior? They should do their full time. They'll end up back in prison soon enough anyway.

I did not know any had done that but it was an ineffective program anyway. Parole did not keep people contained, off the streets, not hurting others. It simply meant the police had an address - but lots of times they would move and no one knew where they were. Meeting someone once a month cant help former inmates much.

I'll go out on a limb here and say they probably did it because a lot of people thought it was a good idea. I have noticed that when this happens and laws are passed not only are there those people that support these laws but there are also those that don't.
Funny how that works!
