Well, it'll work, but you may find that if the white of the walls is a true pure white, you may get the impression that the accents you have added in off white look yellowed.... To avoid this, avoid yellowy off-whites and opt for either beige or gray off whites.

I would try beige instead of off-white or a cream. Off-white or cream is too close in color and may just look like a dirty or old curtain.
White walls can look really good, especially if you have a high ceiling. I like using nice big colorful pictures on the wall with a white wall.
You might try a completely contrasting color like black or a nice red. You'd be surprised how great contrasting colors can make a room look.

I have seen this done and it looks pretty good: white on white where all the fabrics in the room are different shades of white, off-white, cream or ivory. It's monochromatic and it looks pretty sophisticated. I think you could do that. Maybe lay some area rugs down too that are off white or cream, and pillows in different shades of white, off-white or cream. I think it would look really nice. If you be sure to put some white in your accessories along with your off-whites, I think it will pull in the wall color and make everything look coordinated.
Good luck!

Actually my kitchen is white with a "cream" colored trim. It looks good in my house, although I am constantly having to wash the walls due to kids and dogs! I think anything goes with white!

I think you'd have to be careful about using off-white, it would depend on the shade. I think some shades could make the white look gray. Since brown is really a pretty neutral color, how about another color. Blues like navy or denim would be great or even reds or greens.
