You cannot please people who are not pleased with themselves. They will find fault with you no matter what you do.That's just the way they are.
And people who are pleased with themselves do not need you to please them,That's just the way they are.

Yes.. people try to just be what they are and find they aren't nice so they go about trying to ACT better. This is why I'm such a Bltch when people start talking about controlling their urges so they don't sin. The fact that you have the urge means that's what you are. Learning to change the true self is the challenge, not acting in a way contrary to your self.

In terms of other people the one thing that will not work is thinking you'll change them. If someone abuses then they will do it again. They may not for ages due to will power or circumstances, but when the situation is right the environment will trigger the abuser again.

It does make sense.

It's true for the most part, but I wouldn't live by it. After being abused I think some people are just ill. Trying to rationalize it and think black and white (pardon the cliche`) only makes me over think and obsess about such things. Whatever keeps your head up.

I think that is precisely correct. It's kind of like saying that it's hard to love someone else if you don't love yourself first.

Since all feelings, emotions, and actions originate from the self, if the self is not healthy, the feelings emotions and actions will not be healthy either.

its a hard one cindy...
but as it is, as being part of God's creation, we should have to understand this kind of people and help bring them closer to broader understanding...God says, a new command i will give you. Love one another as I have loved you! So no matter how unlikeable a person is, its our duty to let them know that. Sooner or later God will open up that person's eyes and realize how important it is loving one another as God commanded it to us. Have a nice day Cindy. May God Bless Us All!

I agree with you Cindy. I grew up with a terribly verbally abusive alcoholic father. When I was young, I believed that he hated me and I could never please him. But when I grew up I did come to realize that my father hated himself because he never did anything with his life but drink. He had so much potential. Now I only feel sadness for him.

I find it to be relatively true. It is much like, "a man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."

The reason, I find is that people are scared to change.

And yet you want to sing praises to your god to please him ..... so is he :

a. abusive and therefore you wanted to praise him so he would be pleased, even though he will never be based on your first assumption.

b. Pleased with himself and therefore do not require you to please him, but you do it anyway for no reason at all? That is based on your second assumption.

So now do you think your assumption is correct? Logic is 3 dimensional, and not superficial thinking.

You are correct but sometimes with some people it can be a different story. We are humans and sometimes we don't trust ourselves and so forth.
