My 15 year old niece has a My Space account, she was on it the other day when she was over, she wrote down her email and password and asked me to check her My Space emails and let her know if the guy she emailed emails her back, her parents don't have the internet so she has to use other peoples computers, anyways I looked through her profile and stuff and I did'nt like what I saw, she said a lot of stuff to make herself seem older, like that she was 17 and that she smokes and drinks, I know that is not true, she also makes herself out to be a slut, which is also not true, is it beyond my role of aunt to delete her account? I have told my sister about it but like I said they don't have internet so she can't delete it, I worry my niece will attract the wrong kind of attention.

my sister came over today and I gave her my nieces log in name and the new password, I changed it to prevent her from being able to log in, my niece was with her and she got chewed out.

First, sit and ask her why she is lying about things like her age and that she smokes and drinks. Then try to get her to tell the truth on her myspace account, like that she is really only 15 and the she does NOT smoke and drink (she must be writing that to sound cool). The only thing that she is going to attract is the wrong type of people if she is portraying herself as "loose" or "drink/smoker" makes her sound wild. IF she doesn't fix it, I hate to say it, but you may want to delete her account. She may think it's okay to portray herself that way, but you know that it's not

Personally, if your sister is agreeance with you I would delete it yourself (you have the password etc) Either you or your sister explain the reason it was deleted was because their are so many paedophiles trawling the internet that she would be opening herself to being groomed.

Most young teenagers want to appear to be older than they are and it could be purely innocent that she says all that stuff on myspace to appear cooler to other users. This is natural but she needs to be aware that drinking and smoking are not cool and true friends will accept her for who she is no matter what.

It is likely she will feel betrayed but it is in her best interest and for her own safety that this account is deleted.

You shouldn't be put in the position of aving to cover up for her.
