It wasn't so much as eating the fruit, than the REASON for eating the fruit that was so bad. In essence, Eve believed Satan's lies about God. Satan questioned God's authority over the earth and humankind. Adam and Eve, being perfect, knew exactly what they were doing. God gave us free will, but that doesn't mean there are consequences for our actions. The Will of God was for humans to live forever on a beautiful earth. Not this mess. God can see into the future but that doesn't mean that he always does.

These responses about "free will" are driving me nuts! If god is all-knowing and omnipotent, etc, then he would have known exactly what choices that man would make right from the beginning of the creation of the universe...so, regardless of whether we had free will or not (which was god's choice to give man free will) he would have known what man would choose....so why bother creating us in the first place then??
If god creates something, that he KNOWS will fail, then why create it?
If an adult puts a loaded gun in the middle of room full of children and says "don't play with the gun" and then comes back a little later to see some kid got shot, who's fault is it? The kid or the guy who put the gun there in the first place?

Adam had free will. he choose to eat it, he sinned.
god knew he would because god is all knowing.
my best analogy for this is- my cousin always tries to get out of work and chores. she has the option of actually being responsible. I don't avoid asking her to do things. I know 98% of the time she will find a way of not doing them or not put effort into the things she must do. this doesn't mean she doesn't have a choice to be an adult and take care of her workload, it just means I know her well enough that I'm sure she won't do the right thing. (it would be great if she surprised me and it would be great if adam had surprised eve and the serpant and done the right thing as well)

Yeah... I always sort of laughed at this glaring detail. Clearly, God knew Adam would do this. Adam was also unable to sin because he did not have free will yet, and knew only how to obey. This whole story shows why the Bible has to many holesto be considered a valid sourceon proving which religion is "best".

Adam sinned.
Just because God is all-knowing doesn't mean he is all-controlling. I have come to understand a difficult principle in Christianity. We, as God's children, have free will. This means we are able to make our own decisions, no matter if they are right or wrong. When we sin, or choose to do good, it is OUR decision not God's. However, he knows ahead of time what our choices and actions will be. He cries when we mess up and rejoices when we do his will. Our sins are forgiven, but never planned by our Lord.

Only a SadisticRotten InvisibleSkyPixie would do something like that.
Fancy designing and building something with a GLITCH then blaming the creation for Having and Acting upon the glitch.
If he'd have been a half-way serious InvisibleSkyPixie he'd have
a) Not put the tree of knowledge in the garden, or
b) Not allowed his creation to have any curiosity.

Adam sinned. Why would God will sin? He didn't will it, He just knew it was going to happen. If He "willed" everything that's ever happened to you, how would have had the freedom of choice?
It's like telling your kid not touch the stove. They want to do it anyway b/c something in them wants to find for themselves why they shouldn't touch the stove. So you watch to see if they obey and of course they don't and get burned. Bet they won't touch the stove again and learn to trust what you tell them for they're own good. (By the way, this was just an example, I don't recommend burning children on stoves to teach then anything.)
And to the people who wonder why God created us anyway. If you wanted to have kids, and someone showed you the future before you had them and you saw that they turned out to make mistakes, would still not have them? Wouldn't you still love them and want to know them anyway? Is there really something your child could do that would erase your love for them? No, you would have them anyway, love them, and try to save them from their own fate...gee, sounds alot like what God actually did.

The Adam and Eve story is just that, a story. But if it were true and if God is omniscient and prescient, he knew when he put the tree of knowledge in the garden what was going to happen. Therefore everything went as planned.

I think your question confuses God's will and God's knowledge. God did not want Adam to eat the fruit, but knew he was going to do it.
God knows every decision we are going to make throughout our entire lives. That doesn't mean that he makes them for us.
