I didn't post this qustion to be preached to. I have confirmed for myself what I had thought though. Religious people are always right, forget logic and reason, just condemn everything that's not 'Godly'; to Hell with justice and common sense.
I wanted intelligent people's answer to a fundamental question. 'Why do people choose to be slaves to religion'. Not internet evangelism! And, I used the word slave to indicate the fact that religion forces you to act and think in a certain way...get it?...der??? just as a master decides what a slave can and can't do.
If you can't see that religion enslaves you there's no hope. Example: "I love my son but he is gay. The bible (master) says that's bad, therefore I cannot love my son." It's not rocket science people.

1. I don't condemn anybody.
2. I used logic and reason to come to my conclusions.
3. My religion does NOT force me to act and think a certain way. I still have a choice.
4. The Bible does say, as per your example, that homosexual sex is a sin. However, it does NOT say that if one's son or daughter is a homosexual that the parent can't love them. People may choose not to love their child if they decide to engage in a "sinful" lifestyle, but that's their choice! It's not biblical.

And I've never been more free than I am now.

If you want to get really philosophical, we are ALL enslaved to societal constructs. For example, which things are socially acceptable, or things that are considered "crimes." So even if one is not a "slave" to religion, they're still a slave to society.

Religious people are not all the same.

In Islam, being religious means being a slave of God not of the religion! Religion is just the medium upon which one can truly comprehend the Natures of God and His desires for mankind on how to live a life of goodness, piety and sacredness.

Religion is the house that shelters you from the rain when your faith has been going on to some rough times. It is the outward expression of one's devotion and belief in a Creator.

Religion is a sanctuary that lets you experience the power of love, healing, humanity, compassion towards other creatures, kindness and holiness. It is an oasis for a thristy soul and a song for a lost spirit.

Religion is to be followed but also to be questioned, analyzed, rationalized and logically examined. One can not truly follow something when his logic and rationality are shut off. Religion frees us from the shackle of ignorance and brings us into the light of knowledge. The first verse revealed to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was READ! So it all began there and then. Islam produced the best philosophers, doctors, scientists, academics, mathematicians and great people who contributed to great extent in civilizing Europe and the rest of the world.

Religion is a window upon which one can see the neighbor's backyard of needs and it is also the door upon which one can invite the neighbors and easen their feeling of lonesomeness.

Yet religion is not the end of the purpose in life but rather the medium of that purpose. The medium that helps one on how to reach God no matter what distance and whoever one is.

In Islam, religion is a way of life and that being a way of life people tend to express it in many different ways. Many different ways but only one purpose. Yes, there is diversity but there is also unity...

If we can have a room for other people's physical and spirtual needs, why can't we have a much bigger room for their emotional and mental concerns?

'Why do people choose to be slaves to religion'
-
>some have been brainwashed from early age
>some think it absolves them of personal responsibility
>some hide behind it to spout their own bigoted views
>some are genuine believers who are tolerant and open-minded and just need to be in that particular club for whatever emotional reasons
>some have no opinions or views and are ignorant so being a in a cult/club/church helps them socially but maybe not intellectually - depending on the person

People are going to do what they want, no matter what. Don't expect to save any of them with this logic, because they are beyond saving. Funny, how they would say the same of us.
