I heard from Christians that the New Testament law was meant to replace the Old Testament law which automatically means we shouldn't question the atrocities committed in the Old Testament or the laws about people who work on the sabbath being put to death or homosexuals being killed and simply ignore them.

It was perfectly okay to do that back then. It was a different time. Stop living in the past atheists and just accept what people tell you.

Agree?

No, I don't agree.
The latest thing is for xtians to call themselves "New Testament xtians" - this somehow makes it OK and eliminates much of the criticism regarding inconsistencies in the bible because many of the inconsistencies are between the old and new testament.
However, there are still many problems with the NT, even though the message is much more tolerable in today's world.

It is so ironic for a xtian to ask an atheist to stop living in the past. It is also very telling for a xtian to ask an atheist to "just accept what people tell you."

I'm sorry. I'm Christian and say no. You should always ask questions. What would the world be like if no one ever opposed anyone else? Think of all the horrible things that would still be going on in todays world. When your a child you ask questions so that you can learn about the world and atheists deserve the same freedoms. Instead of criticizing others for not submitting why don't you try to help them and guide them in the right direction?

Um, no. The problem is that while you are saying that, you are demanding that the old testament rules are made into laws in the modern states. Not only that but the New Testament is totally based on the Old Testament. It can not exist without it.

1) There are hundreds - and I'm not exaggerating - of inaccuracies in the Bible, not just the Old Testament.
2) The Old Testament is part of the Bible for a reason. It is perfectly valid to question its rules. After all, the entire Bible is reputedly, "The Word of the Lord"

I don't complain about the bible. It's an interesting work of fiction that has more power than it should over people, and nothing else.

Also, I lol'd TWICE at "Stop living in the past atheists and just accept what people tell you." I love how this place is so unintentionally hilarious.

There is no such thing as a "new testiment"! That is deception! YAHWEH'S LAWS ARE PERFECT, ABLE TO CONVERT THE HEART OF MAN TO YAHWEH!!! They were perfect from the very beginning, & they continue to be perfect yesterday, today, & tomorrow!!!! Do you see the stars arguing with YAHWEH?!! No!!! They do not!!! They continue to obey the very laws that YAHWEH set before them in the day that they were created, & they continue perfectly in order & in unity through out the universe!!! Do the sun & the moon argue with YAHWEH about when they want to rise or set in the horizon?!! No!!! They do not!!! They contiue to obey the very laws that YAHWEH set before them in the day that they were created & they continue to bring life to this earth every day because of thier obedience!!! Even the earth itself obeys the laws of nature that YAHWEH PLACED IN ORDER!!! Gravity knows its purpose!! What of man? Why is he so confused? WEhy is he always set at odds against his brother & at war with him in order to kill him? Why is there so much madness? Why are the nations so angry with each other? Why are there so many different religions in the world today if its true that there is only one true god? cf.2Cor4:4 & learn that the god of this world is none other than satan herself, & she hasd blinded the minds of those whop would seek the truth, so that they would believe the lie!!! Whats "the lie"? the lie is that you can go on sinning because jesus has done it all for you!!! Just believe! It'll be ok! jesus went to the cross to make it all right! Just don't pay any attention to those old jewish laws, you don't need them anymore. Now, you can live any way you so choose, just as long as you believe!!!
I wouldn't gamble my eternal salvation on it!!! May YAHWEH OPEN THE EYES OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING!!!

"If I do not want what you want, please try not to tell me that my want is wrong.

Or if I believe other than you, at least pause before you correct my view.

Or if my emotion is less than yours, or more, given the same circumstances, try not to ask me to feel more strongly or weakly.

Or yet if I act, or fail to act, in the manner of your design for action, let me be.

I do not, for the moment at least, ask you to understand me. That will come only when you are willing to give up changing me into a copy of you.

I may be your spouse, your parent, your offspring, your friend, or your colleague. If you will allow me any of my own wants, or emotions, or beliefs, or actions, then you open yourself, so that some day these ways of mine might not seem so wrong, and might finally appear to you as right -- for me. To put up with me is the first step to understanding me. Not that you embrace my ways as right for you, but that you are no longer irritated or disappointed with me for my seeming waywardness. And in understanding me you might come to prize my differences from you, and, far from seeking to change me, preserve and even nurture those differences." I have always found it humorous that Christian use the bible as proof that the bible (and Christianity in general) is right...

"The bible is true because the bible says it is true"

This sort of self referential reasoning is meaningless. It is like saying, "Ivory soap is the best soap because it says it is the best soap on the package". Of course it says it is the best soap... because it was written to sell soap. Atheists feel that same way about the bible. Using the bible to support your belief in the Judeo-Christian god is adds no weight to your argument... because the writers (and editors) of the bible wanted to 'sell' god.

I think you may have misunderstood something, somewhere along the line.
NEVER "just accept what people tell you".
Get to know Jesus for yourself, before you decide He's such a bad Guy.
;-D You can tell 'em you heard it from a Christian!
