America is like a house of cards, built on lies and deception. As the corruption builds, the peoples faith diminishes. At the same time technology has allowed control of the mass to exceed anything in prior history. The powers that be have mastered the art of manipulation. If they can keep the slandered of living up to a certain point the people will not revolt, thus allowing liberties to slowly slip away day by day, generation by generation.
Leaving a society filled with apathy and little hope.

So my question is this. How much can we fix before we loose the game?... ... jinga

Darling, you can see by the plethura of answers that the sheeple haven't a clue to truth. They debate that if another party were in control things would be different. How? They are the same. Their agendas are exactly the same. They are in fact op-sames. They seem to be different but once in power both sides do exactly the same thing and that is because their agendas are the same.
Some sheeple here believe they haven't lost any of their freedoms or rights! Talk about being in the matrix! It takes research to find the answers and follow the answers without bias and be willing to accept the truth that you find even if it doesn't seem to be familiar. These people aren't going to embrace change, even if the change will be better for them.
Is it too late? People aren't completely predictable but almost. If enough sheeple can wake up and get out of the matrix and see truth thats all around them then maybe there is hope.
Best of Luck with the sheep, Darling.

Yes, sure! A lot of Americans share the same sentiments as you do; A vivid dissatisfaction over how the authoritative heads deal with the real American issues of preserving values and maintaining a good relationship with its own people and the rest of the world. Everyday, Americans are bottle fed with deceptive propagandas and lies that don’t even attempt to really hide themselves from being bluntly shown…like, so what if you can’t take ‘em…but these are REAL…lies.
But not all Americans think that way…See? This is the problem.
Some Americans allow this direct trampling of the right to know what is true.? Some let themselves get fooled with flimsy excuses from government failures?
Some seem to continue to be blind?...and naïve?... and ignoramus?... and undisturbed by the plunging morality of the very ones who should be exemplars of honesty and prestige. Just where is this great nation falling into??? Don’t ask me…Ask YA.

I agree with your statement. I have been around long enough to observe the grip the corporations have, along with the apparent dumbing down of several generations Between the government and the media, we are given enough bread and circuses to distract us from reality. That reality is that we are largely a nation of sheep, and the wolves are leading the flock. We don't see things the way they are,we see things the way others direct us to. And few are the wiser. As for going the way of Rome, well we already have a lawless and corrupt country, and its getting worse. Many of the criminal rich go free, while the poor simply get locked up.Norman Rockwell's America, if it ever really existed, is long gone, trampled in the gutter. So far I see little chance of building up towards a better tomorrow.Time will tell.

"There is a limit to the tyrant's power." -- Friedrich Schiller

You are NOT a spectator, my friend!

America was NOT built on lies and deception; it was based on the most profound and beautiful ideas of mankind -- to found a Republic, committed to the idea that "...all men are created equal, and are endowed by the Creator with certain Inalienable Rights..." If America truly were fascist, I would not be able to write some of the answers that I've written, to various political questions.

We, the People, can fix "the whole thing", before losing the game. 1) Tell your Congressman: support Kucinich's call for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney, 2) support FDR-style {NOT Felix Rohatyn-style) re-building of U.S. infrastructure and factories, especially factories with machine-tool capabilities, 3) support the withdrawal of U.S forces from Iraq and Afghanistan (where increasingly they are becoming simply 'targets'), 4) support co-operation for a new, just economic system, based on co-operation first between the U.S., Russia, China and India. Get active politically!

As Benjamin Franklin put it, after the Constitutional Convention, "We have given you a Republic, if YOU can keep it!"

Wait, wait, wait ... the dems will screw up and the cons will make it better? The whole mess we are in now is because of the cons that were in power, and still are! The ones who are giving all cons a bad name ... kinda like the person who made that statement.

As for what the question asks. Unfortunately, I think it'll be too late to fix what will be done. Just look at the rights to privacy that have been slipping away since 9/11. The truth is, before the people step to the plate, things will be changed so much that it may be too late to fix it ... and even if it gets fixed, it will come at a great price.

We've been sitting on our asses too long, and still are. And nothing seems to be getting people riled up, because they don't want to look at things and see their future implications. They want easy, quick fixes ... which are rarely the best ones ...

As for those who don't think there are liberties being lost. I'm sorry, I hate to seem rude ... but you are blind. Privacy is being stripped away, little by little, so the blind can't see it. Privacy is where we are at now, control will come after. Fear began this all, and will see it through. Fear causes us to not see the future, and only see the now. We're afraid, so privacy is taken away so that the government can better watch for threats ... criminals are tracked with gps units once they leave prison, alzheimers patients are next, then campers, then children, then everyone is being tracked and watched by the government. Then curfews are put in place, because night is a dangerous time, and for our protection we must be inside. Then? We're in a fascist totalatarian state.

Call it paranoia if you want. Maybe I am crazy. Or maybe I'm just not blind.

You guys make me laugh. What lies, deception and corruption? Every government globally after being in power for a long time has a few. Come on, give us details. Lets see if its as bad as you make out. You (Americans) elected your government for a second term with the biggest landslide victory in American history. So, he must have done something right. Personally I think its people like you and the other left wing nut jobs bringing your country down, not the government.

America is a wonderful country and I would be proud to call myself an American at the moment.

A Brit in London.

Americans need to insist on the separation of church and state. This is first step to keeping the country from becoming like the Muslim countries we are fighting in.
the second thing to do is to ensure that all our grade school children can recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag.
The 3rd, and most difficult is to get everyone to vote. Starting in the smallest of townships on out to national elections.

I hope we can fix it. But i think greed has taken over totally. We find more and more of our leaders being bought and paid fore. Its leaves us with very little hope. Most people can't see it because they live the same greedy life. We are a house of cards waiting for big business to play their hand.

Like coragryph (above) I feel that America has become a fascist country. What bothers me a lot whenever I read the Politics & Government section of Yahoo Answers is that there are a lot of Americans who either aren't aware of this or who applaud it.
