Several people died when the bridge on I 35 collapsed tonight. And that is terrible!!! I'm not out to condemn those that built the bridge, but I am anticipating people blaming God. All I want to know is, in this tragedy, who is to blame, people (someone made a mistake, I am not out to blame whomever) or God?

Hey Alan: you would want God (IF He exists) to transcend the laws of physics to prove He exists? Come on.....

Martin: Fine. You're gay and an atheist...but that's just dumb.

Mr Knowitall:

So we're waiting to see if it's God's or man's fault?

I'm not blaming anyone, I'm really not. Just saying God had no hand in it. That's my only point.

I think it's a true sign of man's immaturity when he seeks to blame God for things such as this. I don't like laying blame on anyone save to say that there are so many factors at play here that we don't know about.
I pray for everyone who lost someone yesterday in this incident.

The bridge was very old, so I don't think it was a person's mistake. I think it is a combination of old age, wear and tear (it was scheduled for a complete overhaul over the next several years) and high traffic. I'm sure bridges today are much safer, only because of all the advances we've had over the past 40 years. So, I think it was a tragedy- but am not willing to blame man without proof. I don't believe in God, so I can't use him as a scapegoat (although sometimes it is tempting).

There will undoubtedly be an investigation. If the bridge was built wrong that will be found out. If maintenance was neglected, they'll find that out. Was it avoidable? Was it someone's fault? We'll find out.

There is ALWAYS an immediate investigation when something like this happens. 9/11 being a major exception.

In the meanwhile, just relax and don't jump to conclusions.

Too many humans with the weight of their vehicle all combined together in one place causing an over load. Along with poor maintains up keep on the bridge. It was a disaster waiting to happen. The only ones who are to blame are the humans their selves.

The problem with people who blame God is that they look at Him as an equal. As in equal to humans. They don't know that God owns it all. They do not recognize that God has authority and power that they cannot fathom.

So they go off and blame God like he was their next door neighbor.

It's their loss!

It's the city's fault... they did not keep an eye on the bridge. There are telltale signs when a bridge is failing, and it could've been spotted months ahead of time.

If you just want to have fun poking blame, though, I'll take the heat. It's definitely my fault; god had to collapse that bridge because I am gay and an atheist. Oh woe is me, I have strayed from the path! I need to choose to be straight and love the all-loving god that collapsed that bridge as a sign to warn me of my evil ways!

The blame can be placed on anyone, but the fault is on the subcontractors hired to inspect the bridge for defects.

It was a human error (mistakes happen). It was a tragedy but it's NOT God's doing.

No one is to blame. Bad things happen. That's life.

If there is no god (as I believe) then it is people's fault and we need to do better. If there is a god and he could have prevented it with less effort then it takes for one of us to blink - then he has some explaning to do, doesn't he ?
