Okay,

So, I've seen a couple of people on R&S say, instead of "God" , "G-D"

Whats up with that? Have I TOTALLY missed out on something?

Will I burn in eternal hellfire because I didn't bleep-out the "o"?

What denomination of Christianity forbids a person to say "God"? Taking the Lord's name in vain is one thing, but isn't this OTT? (Over the top, eh!)

Thanks,

Phil

God is not even the real name of god! But God is just a word! NOT A BEING

In Judaism there is actually a principle of taking a commandment too far--and usually it's something the religious do purposefully to 1. remember the commandment, especially if it's a commandment we unknowingly fulfill in daily life or 2. make absolutely sure we're not breaking a law.

So if it harms no one but brings comfort to some I say, what's the problem.

Some Jews will do it to. The idea is that you are making an image of god by writing out the word "god". But "g-d" or "G" is also an image of god by that same thinking.

The logic behind this dumbfounds me but I suppose it is harmless.

From what I have seen in the Judaic writings, it's gone on to being traditional.

For others I find that it's similar to the Muslims writing PBUH after every use of certain names. I believe, and I could be wrong, that some people feel like they've REALLY done something Holy. To me it looks like they want to appear show offy with the obvioty of their 'spiritual holiness'.

That's just my opinion.

the Jews do not say or write God's name so messianic Jews I pressume still do not. but there is nothing to stop us. YHWH stood for I am what I am (the name God told moses) and was translated into yehway or Jehoveah in old english. ''I am'' became the term used for God in Jesus' time and he used it many times to sat '' I am'' God

So we write God's name reverently. Will Jesus send us all to hell reverently?

BTW, you won't burn in eternal hellfire because there IS NO ETERNAL HELLFIRE in Judaism.

It's principally a convention from Judaism (including Messianic Judaism). The idea is if you don't write it out in full, you cannot deface the name.

God God God God God God God God God God God God God. God, I have to get up early tomorrow! Wow, I sinned, now everyone's going to tell me I'm going to go to hell.

Comin' from a Christian who doesn't believe in hell.

It's a Jewish thing. I do it frequently to avoid needlessly offending people, something I learned on a more friendly forum.
