Let me ask you this: Can you scientifically prove that stealing is wrong?

The Bible is about morality, nothing else. It's not a science book.

Religion has been around since Adam and Eve and it will continue to be around after science fails mankind.

"Christianity doesn't need science, agree?" True, because science disproves the core of the faith, time and again.

"Can you scientifically prove that stealing is wrong?" Morality is a cultural and sociological phenomenon. You can prove that a culture found stealing to be wrong, scientifically, but there is no litmus test to verify right and wrong.

"The Bible is about morality, nothing else. It's not a science book." Bullshit. The bible claims to be historical (which has been proven wrong), and attempts to answer the great questions of mankind. It fails miserably. Man was not made of dust and god's magic breath. The earth is not the center of the universe. The earth is not flat. The bible attempts to be the answer to everything that a person could want to know...and fails on all counts.

"Religion has been around since Adam and Eve and it will continue to be around after science fails mankind." Posturing on your part, and nothing more. It operates under the false assumption that Adam and Eve existed, as told in the bible. It also fails to take into account the fact that when science fails, it goes back to the breaking point, and begins again, until the answers are found. Religion, when it fails, is relegated to history as a myth.

morality in ethics have validity without Magic Jesus just ask any of the moral religions oustide Christianity like Buddhist for instance that tend to define these issues to a fine degree .
Science can prove that something has occurred as in stealing ethics and reason determine it to be wrong or right .
Honor existed long before Christian doctrines and the morality of mankind as well outdate the bible.
Morality is of the highest importance - but for us, not for God.

After much thought and reading many answers that are top notch, I'd just like to add one more viewpoint. It concerns the word "fail" as used in this context.A non-entity(non-sentient) has a definite stop point and will stop at that point regardless of the expectations we place upon that lifeless contraption, Therefore it only fails prematurely when we expect too much. A living creature with free will and a soul can very well stop at differing points. He/She can choose their failing point essentially. So a persons faith may very well NOT be around when science fails mankind. At that point mankind may look with round open eyes and say "oh crap, I made a big mistake by giving up on religion and going with science!" And about that time the true reality of God will come to man.

No, I cannot scientifically prove that. Morals are, of course, very important, and I am glad that we agree on that point and that the bible is not scientific.

However, there are many instances in the bible where the morals are seriously skewed... take for instance the fellow who promised that if god helped him win the battle, he'd kill the first person he saw when he got back... and then set fire to his daughter. What about all the egyptians god killed in the plagues? What about Isaac nearly sacrificing Jacob? What about God sacrificing Jesus? What about the many instances of rape and incest, and the constant warfare and stoning?

Science does not attempt to take the place of morality. It merely uses logic and reason to explain what happens and why it happens; it has given many people reason to believe that there is no god, but many people believe that there is a god due to what they know thanks to science (complexity of life, origins of the universe, et cetera). Science has made all of our lives much better, too... science allows us to have antibiotics and vaccines, electricity and running water, almost all of the tools we use, and so much more. So how has science failed you?

I disagree with you; everyone needs science, no matter what their religion.

There actually are systems of ethics that fall out of religion. One such system is utilitarianism: the belief that society is founded on principles of doing well to one another for mutual benefits. Basically, the society benefits from a whole if people follow rules.

So I think you can scientifically prove or at least support the notion of stealing being wrong based on trends. You don't need the notion of God's existence to justify moral behavior.

Of couse religion dosnt need science!!! All the scientific evidence in the world and you'd still have nonbeleif! Science will not persuade errogence out of ANYONE! And even though the Bible is scientifically accurate (more so than evolution) that wont persuade ANYONE to beleive. Christianity is about faith, and yes morals as well, science tries to lie and say that becase it cannot be scientifically proven its wrong, that is mearly out of errogence, because they know that beleiving will give them accountability, which they DO NOT want. They would rather dismiss God as false and try to prove how we came about WITHOUT him, why? Because than they feel ABOVE God! Because they think that since they have science, they dont need him. So yes, Christianity DOES NOT need science, because people use science to prove things out of arrogence, rather than embrace faith. BTW, science is already failing mankind, because the more scientific knowladge we gain the more and more it points towards a creator, which they were ultimatly trying to avoid!!! God Bless!!!!! I hope this helps!!!

While Christianity (the religion) does not NEED science...

Any religion that is based on truth will not have to fear science.

IF there is a God... He allows science to work... It would be pretty hard for science to disprove Him under those conditions.

And... so far, Science has been unable to disprove God.

Science has managed to disprove a lot of fallacies perported by "religious leaders"...

And... the lack of people trying to understand the history of their own religions has allowed them to believe a lot of erroneous stuff.

The original texts that got translated and we now call the bible... has purposefully included transleation errors... which make some sections contradict each other. Learn Greek, and Hebrew... study the oldest copies possible... and you'll find the errors fast.

The first ones are in Genesis 1....

If science fails mankind, religion will also have failed mankind. Science is the reason you are leaving your message here. So, if it is so bad, stop leaving any messages here and go read your Bible for the rest of your life. That's it, Bible, food, sleep and occasional bathroom trips. No turning on lights. No internet, no TV, no car. Don't touch anything that the Bible didn't create.

Your logic is for crap.

Actually I would probably agree. Science can only focus on the natural world, but Christianity is about redemption from sin. This does not mean that science is useless, science is a great tool for civilization, but Christianity is not dependent upon it. History is more relevant, because Christianity is a historical religion, not quite so much a philosophical one.
