I am about ready to return my new computer! I am so frustrated with this operating system. The drivers don't load easily, the printer won't work. The trial MS office won't load... What is going on here? Is there some trick to getting this system to work?

I bought one a few months ago and I took mine back to. Vista really sucks. You need to make the switch and get a Mac. I love mac it never messes up. Its perfect. Mac is extremely fast (Five times faster then Vista), you will never need a driver all printers, and everything work perfectly the second you plug them in. You won't need virus software because Apple knows how to keep your computer safe, there are 100,000's of programs and a lot of them are free. The computer comes with iLife and a lot of things that are awesome. Apple includes a nice program to load Microsoft documents, and you can get Microsoft word or a free version that works better then Microsoft Office. Make the Switch Get the World's Best Computer! I included a link below!

Let's just say...Vista was the biggest mistake since...idk, Windows XP? Whatever the case, Vista isn't very compatible...at ALL. Many of my programs don't work as they should on my parents' new Vista computer (I like my Windows XP desktop and Ubuntu Linux 7.04 laptop better). For printer drivers, our HP printer's factory drivers failed to run, but Microsoft provided working drivers (they're Microsoft drivers for an HP printer, meaning less features than the HP drivers, but at least it works), as for MS Office, we installed 2002 and it worked fine.

All in all, Vista isn't ready to take on the masses. The best thing to do right now is stick with XP. If you can, get a copy of XP installed on your new computer (if you even needed a new computer in the first place)...I've had much better success in XP (and Ubuntu Linux, but it doesn't run Windows programs) than Vista.

But then again, you probably realize I hate Micro$oft in the first place, but XP isn't all that bad, just Vista...I still prefer Linux for web browsing, IM'ing, and e-mail, school work, music/video playing, and more, I do a lot of application development in Windows, and it's easier to set up weird hardware on Windows than Linux.

You should rephrase your question. It should be why is Microsoft so difficult? It took them years to make XP usable and it still isn't totally perfected. I would see if you can return it, and have them put XP on it. It is more usable then Vista. Vista is worthless unless you have about 2 GB of Ram. It is slow, and drivers to make things work are coming too slow or unstable. Thank Mr. Gates for his latest screw up. What a pile of crap-ware.
