Take her to a groomer. They will get the soap out and also teach you the proper way to bathe a cat.

Dawn would have been better. Washes out easier.
The only thing I can think you can do would be to fill the bath tub with warmish water and without using doap put kitty in and try to get the soap that was left behind, out.
If your too wary of scaring kitty then take him to a professional groomer, that will be expensive but they will know how to effectivly clean it out.
I'm betting apart from being scared, kitty isn't feeling well, not only is his fur that has always been light and airy is full of sticky stuff that picks up dirt like mad, not only that but having let him go without proper rinsing and drying, hes probably licked some of the soap off and is getting a nasty tummy ache.
Best bet is to try the plain water bath though, use a brush while you've got him in there to get as much of the nasty stuff out. In future use dawn, or kitty shampoo

You have got to capture her and rinse all of that off. You should never have let her go without rinsing thoroughly. Block the exit after she is in and consider taking her to the vet. Washing with the soap should not have been a problem although a milder - baby shampoo - might have been a better choice. Why aren't you giving her Revolution or one of the other monthly treatments if she is an indoor-outdoor cat??

I don't know who told you to wash her with dish soap they make soap for animals in the pet supply area at almost every store.I am worried that she is licking the left over soap on her and it is making her sick, you need to get that off of her.If you think you can't do it then bring her to a groomer. They can then give her a bath and treat her for the fleas.

Palmolive does kill fleas. It works great. It doesn't take too much, though!
The dish soap is not toxic to the cat, but it needs to get off of her. You need to catch her and wash her off well. If she fights you, you can gently but firmly hold her by the skin on the back of her neck. It will kind of paralize her, but without hurting her. Rinse and rinse and rinse until her coat runs clear. Then back away - she will run furiously and fast!
She'll be mad for a few days, but she'll come back around.
Next time you wash her, be careful how much soap you use! I find it best to dilute it in my hand before applying it to the coat.

Oh dear, she is probably very upset with you. I think you need to get her to a groomer and have her get a good comb out and bath. She won't be real happy about it and will feel much better when her fur is taken care of properly.
If she goes outside regularly you need to use something like Advantage or Revolution on her every month.

try shaving the cat after taking it to a vet, like a lion cut. i know it sounds weird, but no hair can mean no soap left. talk to your groomer about it, and don't just use any old groomer, use one that has experience with cat shaving. most groomer don't know how to shave a cat properly and cats have very thin skin, believe me i know what i am talking about. my friend shaved her cat by herself and the poor thing not only got buzzed she cut his skin very badly.

I killed a cat with shampooing it.
Your cat might be sick, take her to a vet.
I'll pray for that kitty =].
