What causes photos to become "corrupt" on a memory card? I don't want this to happen to me again!

Here's a few based on my experiences:

1. Don't pull the cable out when you are downloading pictures to the computer.

2. Don't let you battery run all the way down (you take a picture and the battery dies during the transfer process)

3. Don't pull the memory card out with the camera on.

You should format a brand new memory card before first use and after you have uploaded all your photos to your PC.
This is done in the camera's MENU. Check your user guide on how to do this.
Formatting will completely erase everything on the card, so NEVER format the card if it contains photos that have not been upoaded first.

5. pulling the card from the camera when there is still power on
4 formatting the card in the pc is wrong (only format the card in the camera!)
3. poor grade of a cheap memory chip
2. dirty contacts, or not firmly seated
#1: not using "Safely Remove Hardware" feature on the pc before removing the card from the pc.

well the only time i have had this happen is when my batteries are too low, it may show you a preview of the pic then show you the pic later but then next day or later on or even when you go to download them it will say corrupt . i have lost many a good photo that way and it is crazy but digital cameras are so hard on batteries i was buying the expensive batteries just ofr digitals but then i invested in rechargable and keep charged batteries in camera case ( most of the time lol)

It means that the internal files of the memory card have been changed or removed due to faulty care of your memory card.
What GordonH covered is what can cause it most of the time.

I never use a card reader
when I put a new card in the camera - it stays !!
taking the card in and out really hurts it
also, format your card once a month

Too humorous. i grew to become into in the third grade, I used to place in writing memories and the instructor could permit me study them, i could get to giggling so tricky and that i could no longer supply up and my classmates could snigger at some point I wrote a tale a pair of cat that ate a lot of lemons and limes and have been given continual diarrhea, I form of have been given in complication for it, yet on a similar time it grew to become into downright hilarious My classmates wanted to study the story, yet my instructor had taken it away and sent it abode to my parents.
