i have just took over payments of a 2003 corolla, from 55+ mph the rear end tends to loose traction. i have the stock tires on. goodyear -integrity 185*65*r15. no wing or any mods. is this a common problem with the 03's or just my luck. lug nuts are secure. what can i do to greatly change this looseness?

I would recomend replacing the tires, The stock GoodYear tires are crap. I have replaced alot of them at about 30K because they had no traction.

Make sure the rear sway bar links are secure and inspect the sway bar itself. While your at it inspect the front bar and links. The Goodyear Integrity tires are entry level at best. They hold air and and keep the wheels off the pavement. Go to tirerack.com and make a plan to upgrade to a much better tire.
You may also have a bad rear strut or struts which will not control the oscillations of the coil springs. The car will feel like it's bouncing around for no reason.

Generally a swaying or fish tailing is caused by several things.

Wrong size tires.
Over wieght
Under inflated tires
Possible accident where the rear is knock out of alignment with the front.
I don't think that 15'' tires came stock on a corolla but I could be wrong. I would check with a tire shop or dealer.

I would also have the front end aligned.
A real bad toe in or toe out could cause a rear sway.

Check all these things and e-mail me back.

the rear sway bar could have an issue, as could a number of other suspension componants.

its pretty weird getting severe oversteer in a carolla though. Almost impressive.

if it is an XRS corolla which was short lived it had 178HP instead of 138 and only 130 lbs of torque which explains why after you get going it fishtails as there is HP but little torque
