the landlord of the pub where I was wanting to get married, applied to have a wedding liscence. He was told that it was £2k to apply and the room had to be decorated in gold and green. An inspection would be carrried out and if it wasn't done, then there would be no liscence and he wouldn't get the £2k back.
I just don't understand.

You don't. It sounds like he wants the room redecorated! Speak to your local registrar about "Approved Venues"and fees. I think you have a pay a charge for the registrar to attend the venue!

Err... What are you doing, this guy sounds like a right con man.

DON'T have your wedding there.

It shouldn't cost you that much to get a license, may be to hire the venue but not for a piece of paper if that is what you are talking about & not the cost of him to obtain a license for his premises & wherever you go to get married, you can chose the colour you want.

If i were you, i'd report him as well to stop the same thing happening to other people.

The guy telling you this guff, is not only an idiot, but is also an arsehole and a liar! This is absolute crap, and basically all you need to get married is legal permission (the details of which, your local registery office will be able to give you), which costs nothing! He sounds like an idiot Celtic fan, whom is obsessed with the green and white (ignore gold)!

I agree with all the above posts, the guy is trying to get you to pay to have his pub decorated in the colours he wants, wake up...don't let him con you, tell him you know he is trying to con you and look for another venue.

Why don't you just ask him out right... your paying 2 grand and this is meant to be your wedding... get involved and ask questions!

Are you getting MARRIED in a PUB??! Or is it just the reception?
