The term 'author' to me means the one who wrote it. The people you are referring to in the 15th century were just human copy machines.
So my answer is no. I do not think the author of the Bible was mad with syphillis.
The ones who revised it however......

The Bible wasn't "revised". It was translated from the original Hebrew and Greek into the language of the common man. It was the Reformation's greatest gift. Up until that time, only the priests were allowed to read the Bible.
