Having long hair makes a middle-aged man look older because people notice that long hair is usually found on younger men, which makes his age stand out more...its like when older women try to dress like teenagers.

I don't know if either hairstyle will make a middle aged man look older or younger, but short hair is usually the more flattering of the two. Some younger guys can get away with shaggy hair, and guys with gorgeous faces can even have long hair to their shoulders and still look good, but I think middle aged guys should stick with shorter hair, even if they are really handsome. It's similar to a middle aged woman having a very trendy hair style instead of a classic one suitable for her age. It doesn't look right 98% of the time.

People are always going to stereotype to an extent, and I guess you'll just have to live with it. I suppose it depends how short your hair is, because it is a little unusual to have incredibly short hair and little makeup etc... but in the end, if you don't care then it doesn't matter. You could change things by adding a little more makeup, dressing feminine [unless you already do] and so on. But I think that however you dress, whether it's short hair = lesbian, black clothes = carrying a knife, etc. You can change little things though, so do what you want... but yes, it is a common stereotype, so don't be surprised.

It depends on the amount of hair he has. If it's not much due to male pattern baldness, he should go short. The Ben Franklin look is no longer in style. A man should be well-groomed and comfortable with himself no matter how long his hair is.

Middle age men look better with 'current' hairstyles for their type of hair. If a man is balding or has thinning hair, then a shorter cut would be best. If he has a thick full head of hair, then he should be able to wear it as he pleases, as long as it's a current style. What I hate to see is men and women who get 'stuck' wearing the same hairstyle they wore in high school or college. It just makes them look like a doofus. Since celebrities are so conscientious of fashion, look for one who has your type of hair and emulate that style for yourself. Don't be afraid to buy one of those 'star' magazines with 'your' celebrity in it and take it to the hair stylist so they will know what you want. A good stylist should be able to tell you if you can wear that type of style with ease.

I prefer hair that is shoulder length or longer, And since that men who like women are more often then not directly, they like long hair because it looks more feminine, as most guys have short hair.
