I know I may sound like a real ***** but after 2 months of my monthly drills, I've started to think if joining the illinois national guard was right for me. I want to keep going to school and lately I've been having deep thoughts on whether this was a right choice for me.. Deep inside I don't want to go but I joined because my family is poor but I've come to a change of heart and now i really don't want to go. Go ahead and talk trash to me if you must but could there be anyway of getting out before my scheduled departure to boot camp in October?

I was in the military, Navy to be exact. IM on vacation right now and gonna be done with my 4 year contract in 6 days. The military was good, i met alot of people, seen a lot of things, and experienced a lot. no joke. If you wanna get out of the army though, I believe you can still get out, the recruiter might frown upon you but unless you have not signed any contract saying you will do your X amount of years in the army than they cant force you. They will give you a lot of **** though. I dont suggest you join the army though due to the fact that the army is strained and waiting for new replacements to iraq. But its your choice.

Yes there are ways to get out of it if you have not raised your right hand and taken the oath of enlistment and signed your final contract. Even then there are some ways. You said your family is poor, try a hardship exit.
What I wouldn't do is something stupid like failing a drug test or getting in ANY kind of trouble to avoid going. A bad conduct discharge will follow you for the rest of your life. Talk to your recruiter, talk to a lawyer, if you cant afford one try free legal aid. Every state has it.
Good luck, the military is not for everyone and the truth is if you really don't want to be in the army, they probably don't want you in the army.

First off I do not condemn you. I am retired military. Yes serving is a tough decision. You have a really important opportunity here. Probably once in a lifetime. Many men and women before you agonized over the same decision. The fact that you have the opportunity to make the decision undoubtedly is because of their sacrifices. If it is in your heart to get over the magnicifence of being you and focus on those who don't get this chance then yes you can make a real difference. If you don't, then live with it.

Rsp doesnt come close to how BCT really is, they are only preparing you for BCT, trust me when I cam home from AIT and tried to sign in my unit I had to go to RSP (because I didnt do it before I shipped to bct) ,for me It was a waste of my time and the states money because the SGTs could not teach me about my MOS , nor could I do my MOS in RSP until I was battle handed off..
Many kids were "chased down" when they didnt show up for RSP ..
I understand your family situation most people join for the same reason, I will NOT beat you down for your choices , your best bet is to talk to your Recruiter in RSP or the 1SG.

If you have sworn in I really dont think they will let you out ( I could be wrong) .
The Military isnt for everyone ..
Good luck to you !

Active duty, yes. Guard, I doubt it. You've already begun to reap the benefits of your contract (drill pay). So, you've decided that the army isn't for you after 4 days of experience. That's impressive. It takes some people twenty years.

I won't trash you. You're doing that pretty well yourself.

If you've signed a contract, short of your untimely demise, I'd say you were going to boot camp. But you're asking the wrong people. You need to ask a detailer in your unit.

Ya, just don't go to BCT. (why do you call it boot camp, I thought you said you are army?)

Fail the drug test. Repeatedly Fail PT tests or weight. Just stop going to drill. ect.
You are not going to go to jail or anything, they will just kick you out (I think after you miss 8 drills or something you are out).

get chartered for failure to adapt.

LOL
The Illinois Guard is a joke, you guys still in Springfield?

If you want out. Write a letter to President Bush and ask him what he did to get out of the Texas Air Guard when they started drug testing the pilots.

You might need to "buy" yourself one of the local politicians.

If you try the old "kiss the sargeant" trick, you might be unpleasantly surprised when he slips you the tongue.
