Some say that we live a life that God has given us, travel a road he has laid out for us, and are destined to live our life the way he wants us to. With that in mind, if you believe in God, can you believe in free will as well?

God has given us free will and at the same time His purpose in our lives is also ensured - like what Paul wrote in his epistles that some vessels are being suffered by God in that they will eventually be destroyed, though they were created for that very purpose... as Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice." Thus those who are His have already been decided, their names are written in the book of the Lamb. It's just a matter of time till such find their master.

if you were to use a time machine, and go back and watch yourself make a choice, did you have free will when you made that choice, or did the fact that you, already knowing what that choice would be, un-do that free will descision?

if you had a scenario that your trying to predict the outcome of. the more variables you know and can consider for, ithe more accurate a production you'll be able to make.
if one has all the variables, perfectly, and absolutely, then that scenario, would be perfectly predictable.

like if you know someone really really well, if your given a hypothetical situation, you can probably predict what they would do, pretty accurately. (if you really know them) would it not make sense for an omnipotent omniscient being, to be able to perfectly predict everything?

Yes you can. the Bible says that God created us with our own free will. God also has a will for our lives and a direction that he wants to take us in but He will not override our will in order to do it.

This question is not actually as complex as it seems...G-d gave us the Ten Commandments right? But we can (and do) break them all the time. If we had no free will, we wouldn't be able to do things that G-d tells us not to do.

G-d created us imperfect, so he therefore understands and accepts that we are not perfect, and are never going to be perfect. He only expects us to STRIVE for perfection.

hi Charis, because of the fact the Apostle Paul says: Romans 3:10 as that's written, there is none righteous, no, no longer one: additionally Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and are available in need of the honour of God; Isaiah sixty 4:6 yet we are all as an unclean ingredient, and all our righteousnesses are as FILTHY RAGS; and all of us do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. no rely how good i'm, my goodness and my works would not make me unfastened from evil. that's in basic terms the grace and mercy of a forgiving God, in the process the sacrificial loss of life of HIS Son, which makes a manner for us to be forgiven, and that's in basic terms as quickly as we repent of our sin. all of us sin in one way or yet another, the two by using concept, be conscious or deed. each and every sin is evil in Gods eyes, and HE can not look upon sin, as grew to become into the case with Jesus as HE held on the bypass and cried out to His Father....."My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me". As Jesus reported: Luke eleven:13 IF YE THEN BEING EVIL, comprehend the thank you to grant good presents unto your babies: how lots greater shall your heavenly Father supply the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? the only way we as believers will ever be unfastened from evil, is as quickly as we are status in heaven in the presence of our heavenly Father and His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ. as quickly as greater the Apostle Paul sums it up very nicely. If he can say those words as between the main Godly servants of Christ, how lots the greater could we voice an analogous sentiment. Romans 7:21 i come across then a regulation, that, whilst i might do good, EVIL IS latest WITH ME. have faith my answer helps. Ed

You're not the first person to wrestle with this question. Theologians have been dealing with it for centuries. If I knew the answer, I'd give it to you. But I trust in God. He's quite a bit smarter than me.

Yeah. God gives us choice. He would be over joyed if we chose the path he made especially for us, but if we don't he understands and lets us continue on. But he also gives us the power to change the choices we make, so we can follow his plan. But it's up to us to put it into action.

Yes.

I believe in free will.

Only a splinter of Christians (known as "reformed") believe in predestination, the vast majority of Christians believe in free will.
