There's a program @ my university where they give a MEMORIAL Loan to students who are in financial need & are receiving financial aid, & the money is deducted from my refund checks. But they told me that if I am in DIRE need, I have to write them a letter of being in extenuating circumstances, so I can get the money earlier. I'm on a fixed income, my electricity bill is high because I had to pay a deposit on it, & I'm low on food & clothing, & I need books & school supplies. & this type of loan is NOT credit-based. My financial credit is poor as a result of Hurricane Katrina (long story) but I became in debt, trying to replace my necessities.

I only have 3 towels & washcloths left. I didn't realize my brother was stealing my stuff when I was living with him. Now I have my own apartment.

I'm asking in the ETIQUETTE section since this has to do with trying to persuade politely & properly & not rudely.

When I read only the beginning of your question, I
thought I was going to tell you that what's stopping everyone from asking for $4000? But as I read on, you really have a brutal story. Maybe you could post just what you wrote in your question. I would gladly lend you money. You've had a rough time of it. Good luck to you. :)

Dear Question Queen,

Here are a few options I can think of to night. I am including a link to a page with information about the etiquette of letter writing - http://www.bartleby.com/95/28.html -

Make sure that when you write your letter, that you explain your circumstances, clearly and with a touch of emotion. Try to understand HOW they will receive the letter ... think of all the questions they may have. Be prepared for a no, and already be working on the rebuttal to the no.

Then look into the other forms of help available. That is what they are there for.

good luck,
green terra

Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you."

Well, if you put all of that in your letter, you've got one heck of a letter to take into Uni.... Also tell them what they will get from lending you the money....ie... a student who will complete the course, studuous, conscientious who will make a fabulous contribution to society when completed. Good luck, you deserve it.

I think it would be OK if you just tell them what you told us. Just use a business letter format when you write it. Good luck!
