females may not be on submarines or in any of the Sub specific ratings.

Unfortunately, women are not allowed on subs. The military feels (and it has been justified in this..there are many women deployed in Iraq coming home pregnant even though intimate contact is strictly forbidden) that the quarters are too tight for females to safely serve in the enviroment...both for thier own safety and for the safety and moral of the crew. However, do not let that stop you from serving. While you may not be able to serve in the way you dreamed, there are many other areas (some just as prestigous as sub duty) that would welcome a dedicated young woman like yourself. Talk with a recruiter about your options..see if there is something that intrigues you.

I am not in the Navy I am a soldier but I will tell you that you will not be allowed to join the silent service. There are federal laws and Naval regs against it. That said thank you for wanting to serve you still might be able to get in to their Nuke program but you would be on a carrier, not a sub.

It's a rule that will take a long, long time to be overturned, I'm afraid. It'll happen, but I don't expect it anytime soon. After Tailhook, there are too many higher ups too afraid of men and women in close quarters.
Who knows? Maybe you can apply and be the first.
