Dogs are going to do that to other dogs they do not know when the other dogs invade their territory. It is a sign they are ready to fight to protect themselves and their territory.

It is kind of like them saying YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME COME ON LET'S GET IT ON! As the movie lines went.

Heck when growing up we lived in country. My Chow and neighbor's pit bull would tie up everytime we'd walk over to see them, or everytime they'd come visit us. I've been bitten I don't know how many times pulling those two knuckle heads apart. But at night you'd watch those two idiots meeting in the pasture then taking off hunting together.

Now if they are acting that way around just one or two people and not others. They sense something about that person that is a danger to them or you. Or they don't know that person so aren't taking any chances.

Like we had a Shepherd when we moved. Our new next door neighbor was there by herself because her husband was gone on business for a couple of weeks. Make a long story short he got home about a week after we had moved in.

King (Every German Shepherd we had for some reason got named King) nailed him and put him on top if his car. King won't let him off until she came out and let King know he was alright. He belonged there. Now King was the type of dog that a toddler could walk up and take a bone out of his mouth and he wouldn't do anything. But you raise a hand at a kid he'd nail you he didn't care who you were. Even me or my then wife.

Anyway there was one man (was in business doing carpenter work general home repairs ) who King absolutely did not like. Everytime someone was having work done by him they'd have to call us and tell us to put King in the house, because King would not let him out of the truck for some reason. found out why around six months later. They arrested the man for breaking and entering and attempted rape! He'd broke into a house across town and had tried to rape the lady.

So dogs have a sixth sense about them we do not have! They can sense when things aren't right about somebody and that person is a potential danger. I'd be leery of being alone around the people you dogs don't like. They sense danger from that person.

just about all dogs bark at anything that comes onto or near what they consider their territory. In your dog's case its probably your house and yard. Also if most dogs see other dogs or people on the street, though the reaction is different among dogs the curiosity remains a constant. Dogs just crave attention. Sometimes they feel like their protecting their master and or their territory. Other times they're just saying hi.

The dog in that picture is on alert--but neutral.

Usually, if you feel you can, it's best to snap a dog out of this behavior. When in that body posture, your dog is ready either to relax and be friendly, or strike forward and fight. It's a neutral position that is saying, "Hey, I'm a bit anxious and unsure about you. What are you up to? Are you friend or foe?"

If your dog were to get in a fight at that moment, it wouldn't be a lasting dog aggression, but it would be temporary aggression nonetheless.

So, they're not necesarily turning mean, but you do need to correct them and snap them out of their frame of mind in that moment. Snap your fingers, give a single, sharp tug on the leash, or say, "Hey!" in a firm voice, and stare your dog in the eyes.

No, she is just trying to show who's the boss. Her hackles (the erectile hair on the back of an animal's neck) are standing up. A couple of our dogs do that too - protecting their area! Feel safe!! Ü

Beautiful dog, love her eyes!! She looks part wolf!

No my dogs do that sometimes, she may smell something that she doesn't like, she might have picked up that the other dogs were becoming aggressive with her and wanted to stand her ground.

if the dogs only do it to other dogs, they aren't becoming mean - they probably need more socializing with other dogs. it's some aggression, but some protection of you and warning other dogs to stay away, as well.

She's not turning mean, she is letting the other dogs know that they are tresspassing.. You might want to socialize her more around other dogs. Make sure she's spayed..

No it means they are trying to protect their property. The showing of teeth and raising of hair are signs to other animals to back off.

its' showing a sign of aggression.making it self look bigger then now is, all animals have ways of showing them self, as a raccoon spreads its' legs apart and looks like it been riding a horse all day giving the look as wider then is. on hot days mostly, get the water games going on and get wet together, cool it off on days like that.your have fun too.
