My father was recently arrested for a 3rd time for possesion of Methamphetamine. ( we aren't close as a result of his using) His 1st cousin posted his bail in the amount of 11,000 and they are now living "happily ever after" as lovers... to me and my 3 sisters this is utterly disgusting, so why is his family so supportive of this? I love my dad's family, but I just can't accept his relationship. To top it off how do I answer my kids' (8, 4 and 1) questions about why we don't visit him anymore and such?

It's still disgusting. If you've explained to your kids about morality then it shoudln't be too hard to explain to them that what their grandpa is doing is wrong. My cousin's 8 year old daughter told me that having sex with someone who isn't my husband is a sin.....she's right and knows it because their family gets together and studies the Bible.

I think it's sick--the drug use and the affair, and I would just tell my children that grandpa has a problem, and is sick, and we can't see him because of that. If they're old enough to know about the drug use, then by all means tell them about it--but I doubt even the 8 year old is ready for that just yet. Keep it age appropriate. Keep the love affair with the 1st cousin out of it as well--the drug use is enough for me to keep my kids far, far away.

Well, the meth is disgusting and worrying enough that you could use that as your sole explanation for not visiting him if you want to.

And no, it's still not considered classy to be lovers with your first cousin in my little world.

It's his life. How you explain to your kids...simple. The 1 year old isn't going to ask....the 8 and 4 year old you can tell them that you simply don't care for his chose lifestyle and leave it at that. If they ask for more of an explanation just tell them it is not for them to know and don't argue the issue.

you tell your children we don't visit grandpa because he's made some choices that are not good or healthy, and they are choice we cannot support...(but in an age appropriate way). they don't need to know all the gory details and such.

Tell them he is a bad influence, which he is. If they press you say its because of drugs.
