I know I've been asking about this a lot lately, but it's really interfering with my life and I have yet to get an intelligent answer from anyone. I have been working on recovering from paruresis (mostly by practicing in public restrooms), but I haven't completely eliminated the problem yet, and I need a way to be able to pee in situations where I lock up and am unable to. This is not just a matter of drinking more, and it can't be fixed by listening to music, as so many people seem to think. I can't use catheters because I'm only 16 and would rather not have constant infections from it. If you don't know what I'm talking about but insist on answering anyway, at least read something about it on www.paruresis.org so you don't end up saying something completely stupid...

Ok, let me clarify- I don't mean to call everyone stupid before they even answer. We all know this site is full of idiots, and in the past they were the only ones who ever gave any answers to this question. There are just as many (if not more) intelligent people here, and I'd really like to see their take on this for a change instead of just the jokers. It's nice (not to mention shocking) to see that I'm already getting a few good answers on this...

Ommotherlifeforce, it's people like you who are so discouraging to people with this problem... If you don't care to say anything constructive, don't even answer!

Nobody's even answering the question; I was asking if there's any way I can force myself to pee in impossible situations; is there somewhere on my body I can apply pressure to that will cause a muscle spasm in my bladder or something? Also, I've noticed a lot of people telling me to see a doctor about this; that won't do any good because most doctors have never heard of this condition and are not willing to learn about it.

"Stay away from public restrooms"? That's exactly why this restricts my life so much: I can't go anywhere for very long just because of that aspect of it!

I don't think there is a one sentence answer. You're actively trying to become free of the disorder. You should give yourself more credit. That disorder in my opinion is complex. Similar to OCD. I didn't say that in an insensitive way. It's just very "specific to the individual" I believe you need to find consistent caring therapy along with your own will power and determination. I believe you'll help someone else someday soon with the same issue. Remember, give yourself MORE credit. :D

I am not going to say anything stupid. I just want to give you moral support on what has to be so very difficult for you. I really don't know what your question is, but it sounds as if you are working closely with the medical team if you are practicing and know about catheters. I am a nurse and had a friend who had this. I was her support buddy for a while. I would stand outside the bathroom door in a public restroom so she could see my feet. Then after a while and several successful attempts we actually moved on to conversation, then going to restrooms with other people in it. She was never "cured" but was more successful than not. I will tell you that I hope you have a good support system to help you and I pray that your successes will come quickly. Good luck.

Have you tried having the tap running before you go into the cubicle? does it help that you cant hear anyone else? Have you tried hypnotherapy or personal sedation techniques? I have heard that sometimes a mental blockage stops people from performing physical tasks, so a reiki session or acupressure may assist as well. Have you tried any of these? It might be worthwhile looking at what feeling you have when you are put into the situation first before trying to figure out a way to overcome it. It could be that there is a memory/feeling that you aren't able to recall that stops you from being able to do what you need to do. Good luck and I hope you find the way that suits you...

I know someone very close to me that has this! She SWEARS that Kava Kava (A natural calming agent) helps. She also said that she tries to meditate so that she gains an extra degree of separation from her surroundings. I can see that she truly suffers from this, and I feel terrible for you both. Science is a wonderful thing, and I bet somebody will figure this out.

I am sorry I couldn't give you a better answer.

Doesn't sound like you want an answer. Pretty poor attitude for someone asking for help. Calling ppl stupid before they even asnswer is not the way to get a decent response. Just pissed me off and find the answer yourself if you think everyone who tries to help is stupid. geeez some ppl

My first question is have you seen a specialist in the field? Going to your regular GP may not be enough at this point.

My second question is why are you asking this question on here if you have so little faith anyone may have an answer...or a brain? I don't think it fosters eager answerers, do you?
