My daughter was born in Austin Texas and we now reside in Canyon Lake TX. Do I have to go all the way back to Austin to pick up a copy or can I do it some place closer?

The birth certificate of your child could be picked-up at Austin, Texas unless there is a delivery service.

Go online to the county born in and they will have a listing for birth records and explain everything. just some paper work to print out and sign notarize (at you bank they can for free most of the time, send them the paper work and whatever fee they ask and they will send you a certified copy good for everyone

You have to contact the vital statistics office of Harris County and request a copy. There's a fee, but you don't have to make a trip.

You can probably do it online, just go to the county recorders office web site where your child was born and it will tell you how to get it. Good Luck!
