I bought a car at CarMax about 2 months ago. I really liked the process. I had been to several regular dealerships and got the same run around and sales pitch that dealership salesmen give you. At CarMax it was a totally different experience. The saleslady was able to answer any question I had and I never felt pushed into my car purchase.
I suggest you check out their website before going so you have an idea of what vehicle you'd like to test drive or look at. This will save you time because there are literally hundreds of different types of cars available.
The price of my car was a couple thousand dollars less than the local used dealership price for the same car which was very nice. The price on the car is their bottom offer so you know what you're looking at up front and don't have to guess what they want for it. As far as extended warrantees go, they offer it but you don't have to purchase it. I didn't. If you're financing, they send your info in and you will get a few offers back and you choose which bank you want to go with. It just depends on what kind of payment & interest you'd like.
After the purchase of the car they take you out to it and have you go over several items in the car to familiarize yourself with it such as turn signals, headlights, and seat controls. Every car is different so this is a nice way to learn about your new car. They also wash the car for you and give you a full tank of gas.
Overall I'd buy another car there in a heartbeat. I've bought new cars at dealerships before and not been treated as well as I was at CarMax.

Carmax does a VERY good inspection on their cars before they sell them. Unlike most dealers who just make sure they are in working order. That's why Carmax cars are more expensive.

Yes Carmax is tops when it comes to marketing a product, but as for the rest they dont rate at the top, franchise dealers get the nod, for an explanation go to this link on my website http://www.usedcartips.org/TENTHOU.html
But no matter whom you buy from its study and knowleage that keeps lemons out of your driveway.

I have freinds who went through carmax and they took their heads off in intrest so do your research and find out what the intrest rates will be if you finance and if you have a car to sell dont do a trade in through them, sure it will look great on paper but if you sell independantly for example you can advertise for free on craigslist, type in your city and state and the wd craigslist to find ppl near you who are selling automobiles or to post yours for sale its free! buying from a single owner and older person is usually the best bet because you know one person owned the car and probably took good care of it when you buy from carmax they get there cars from all over auctions, bank repos, etc..good luck and best wishes=)

If by good you mean they do not haggle over price. Then yes they are good. Problem is that a dealership does not haggle over price, it is the customer that does so. So when Carmax claims that they their "bottom price" is on the widow sticker and that they do not haggle over price, that's their way of saying, "Buy it our price---no discount!"

I'm sure they are like the rest. They need to make money. They do offer a warranty with their cars so that is not so bad.
I haven't bought a car from them, and can't say I know any people that have bought from them either. But I retired from Ford, so I always bought new.
