Christians were predominantly responsible for the mass murder and genocide of the:
Native Americans during colonization
Africans in the slave trade
Jews in the Holocaust
Innocent Japanese with the Bomb

Also, aren't the KKK Christians? Whose bombs were exploding in Bagdad? Who runs FEMA and the healthcare system (among everything else)? Whose religious sect is constantly in trouble for child molestation and continue with their "traditional" ways, hardly addressing the issue? Whose religious sect continues to deny scientific facts?

Christians. !

It isn't a flattering depiction of the un-Christian-like Christians and it isn't hard to see why they are dying off. They talk of Heaven, yet according to the rules, some of the most evil people that ever lived can qualify, and Gandhi, Bob Marley and Nelson Mandela will not. Their guide is a book that isn't written clearly and demonstrative for an all powerful God who will punish those who don't believe in Him.
Now, DENY!

You can't blame the religion as a whole for the actions of a few of it's followers. Every religion has its flaws, and Christianity is under very close scrutiny as one of the most widely-followed religions of all time.
Believe it or not, there was once a time when the Christians were a minority, and they were persecuted just as much as the Jews, Muslims, and Pagans have in the past. They were seen as heretics, worshiping a man as an idol. Somehow, the religion survived the harsh formative years and went on to spread around the world, in ways both peaceful and violent.
So, can you honestly say that it's any different? The trouble with being the largest or most powerful is that EVERYTHING- every success, failure, mistake, virtue- is magnified to a ridiculous degree. True, the actions were not right, but it's just an exaggeration of human nature. On a wider scale, it really is nothing unique or new.

To begin with ...please don't ever, ever confuse Christianity or the poster child for such to be a Nazi or KKK hatemonger or someone who beat/killed/tortured anyone on a based on race a Christian. Just because you "check the box" as Christian doesn't mean you understand what's going on inside the Bible.

Unfortunately, there's no license, certification, etc required to identify yourself as a Christian. And, yes, too there are times of war the Bible does not deny that....it was be or be killed at the time the bomb was dropped. Pearl Harbor among other events preceeded the bomb?

And, yes, unfortunately, at other times Christian participate in totally intolerable acts such as the recent molestations. While its not only the Christians doing this, the act should never be hidden. I can't control another person does on any particular day and, in many cases, God choose not to control what a person does either. However, there are consequences externally and internally. The Bible promises forgiveness and healing. It doesn't say this world's going to be perfect...nor is a Christian perfect. When you lower the bar and realize everyone's human and mistakes happen...hopefully, you will find time to breathe and stop ranting on these question boards.

Wow.
no. You are wrong on all counts.
Isn't it easy to twist the truth to your own agenda.
You are no better than the people who did the acts you mentioned.
Here is a question for you in turn.
If you have such a low (and false) opinion of Christianity, why would you even care to bash it?
If you do not believe in it, why waste your time and trouble on it if it doesn't exist? Are you pushing your agenda?
Let me put it in words you'll understand:
Let's just say that all white people are trash who hate the black people who are lazy who in turn hate the white people.
You see what I mean?
That is a prejudiced and biased remark just like the ones you mentioned. That shows ignorance and one who would group a lot of people who have nothing to do with one another in the same belief.
A Christian is quite simply a follower of Christ.
One who believes in the one true God.
Man perverts all he touches as with what all you mentioned above and the way you just went about it.
-Just because a person wears the t-shirt doesn't make him a member.
You mentioned alot of history. Too bad you didn't comprehend what you picked out of your high school history book. The Nazis were not Christians.
The U.S. as a whole was not and is not Christian.
You are false in your accessments, and who says that Gandhi Nelson Mandela, and Bob Marley won't make it?
Who knows, you may even make it..someday.

Look, one day you'll grow up and see where all this angst comes from in your life, and direct it more appropriately.
I wish you well until that day comes.

Now, I'm usually the first one to criticize Christians, but you made some broad assumptions here that are mostly incorrect. The violence that Christianity has condoned in the past are aspects of human nature. Christianity, Islam, or any other religion just gives people the reason and justification to act on their more base instincts. Also, what did Christians have to do with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Your other points could use some clarification as well.

2007-08-01 23:57:23 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 0 1

The people you speak of are not Christ-like.

I sometimes don't like the word "christian" when it come to stuff like this.
Jesus Christ told us to "do violence to no man".

What those or anybody else calls their self does not make them what they claim.

JESUS CHRIST is love and peace. All who have the spirit of God has this love. Many people call themselves christian and do not have Jesus living in them.

Galatians 5:22&23 (King James Version)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Romans 8:9
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

I will not deny that people who called their self christian had done the things you mention (esp. the catholic church). I can tell you one thing TRUE CHRISTIANS DO NOT DO THESE THINGS. True Christians are like sheep to the slaughter. There is no hate in a true Christian.

A true Christian is a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is nothing but love and compassion in them.

Thank you for taking time to read this.

You must be a liberal. You use the word "Christian" very loosely. Mostly the gov't attacked the Native Americans and I'm pretty sure that in this country we've always had separation of church and state. I will not say that the gov't hasn't been influenced by Christianity in the past, nor will I say that it isn't influenced by Christianity today, but to say that Christians were mostly responsible for the slaughter of Native Americans is denying the facts. They did call it "Manifest Destiny" that God wanted the United States to have the land we occupy now, but that was mostly fueled by the unbiblical teaching that whites are naturally superior to the rest of humanity, and probably some replacement theology which says that Christians are God's chosen people in place of the nation of Israel, so we can do what Israel did to the Canaanites to the people in this land. Replacement theology is also false. All of humanity descended from Adam and Eve according to the Bible. There are no different races.

If you study your history, you will find out that it was the Africans that suggested to the Europeans that they should have slaves. It was the Africans' idea to sell slaves to the settlers and others. It was mostly Christians who were behind the abolitionist movement until slavery was finally abolished at the end of the Civil War. But yes, many Christians did own slaves.

As for the Holocaust, the Catholic Church was afraid, so they made a deal with Hitler so that they wouldn't be persecuted. Many good Christians hid Jews in their homes at mortal risk to themselves. Hitler believed in the superiority of the Aryan race. He thought that they should rule the world because they had evolved further. One of the things he used to justify their killing was the "fact" that Jews had a "fiendish skull" and thus were close to pure ape. Mein Kampf is full of evolution and its ideas. Hitler said, "I regard Christianity as the most fatal and seductive lie that ever existed." True Christianity had nothing to do with the Holocaust, except to oppose it. Martin Luther came up with replacement theology and Hitler used it to justify the Holocaust but Luther was mistaken and Hitler was also (Romans chapters 9-11).

I'm pretty sure it was the U. S. gov't that decided to nuke Japan. I'm also fairly certain we have separation of church and state in this country. The bombs in Baghdad were dropped by the army, ordered by the U. S. gov't also. Don't blame the church for what the gov't did. Bush thinks there are terrorists in Iraq who are a threat to this country. I think all people want to live, not just Christians, so this is not just a Christian-backed war for strictly religious reasons.

Our healthcare system, though not perfect, is the best in the world. Most of the hospitals were founded by Christians. If not for Jesus telling us to take care of the sick, those hospitals probably wouldn't even be there. Don't think so? Ask the Untouchables in Hindu India or the sick people in Muslim countries who go untreated because of a doctrine called "kismet," which basically means if you're sick, it's Allah's will that you die. It doesn't mean try to treat the person and if you're unsuccessful, then it was God's will for them to die. It means, don't even bother trying. Or would you rather swap with a communist country? Or a socialist country that rations out treatment? FEMA means Federal Emergency Management Association. That means the gov't runs it. Have you ever heard of the Convoy of Hope? It's a Christian-run disaster relief organization and FEMA officials are extremely grateful for them because the gov't is very ineffective at everything, so without the Convoy of Hope, there would be a lot more rioting. My sister will be working with them in the fall and I know one of the higher up officials because he used to be the pastor of my church.

Did you know in Africa, it is a common religious belief (not Christian by the way) that a man can cure himself of HIV by having sex with a young child who is a virgin. This is one of the reasons for the epidemic there. Did you know the Bible teaches us to live monogamous lives and if everyone did, there wouldn't be any STD's, except I suppose for a yeast infection and maybe bedbugs, passed to anyone? Every major religion has child molesters within it. That doesn't mean the religion is bad. It just means some of the followers are corrupt. And I'm pretty certain that atheistic types would say all religions (or nearly all) deny scientific facts. I'm a Christian. I don't deny scientific facts. I do deny theories that haven't been proven, like evolution, because they contradict the Bible.

Gandhi beat his wife and Bob Marley was a drug addict, so I don't see how you can say that good people don't qualify. The fact is that no one measures up to the standard of the Ten Commandments because everyone has lied at one time or another (violated #9), nearly all have stolen something (#8), have committed adultery in their heart by lusting (#7, Matthew 5), committed murder in their heart by holding a grudge or being angry without cause (#6, also Matthew 5; and it disqualifies the KKK from being Christians because they never repented of this), dishonored their parents (#4), taken the Lord's name in vain (i.e. said G.d., omG, etc., #3), and obsessed over something they didn't have but wanted, which is coveting (#10).

If I remember rightly, Nelson Mandela is a Bible-believing Christian, so he will go to heaven because Jesus paid for his sins and he asked forgiveness and repented. You can do the same if you choose. And the Bible is mostly pretty clear. There are parts of it that I don't understand, but I can get a pretty good idea of what God wants me to do by reading it and asking Him. Sometimes I have to ask other people too, but that's okay. It's God's Word. How could a human hope to fully understand every aspect? God will destroy those who don't believe in Him. I'd like to see you stop Him. Since you can't, I'd suggest you get on His side so that He doesn't destroy you along with the rest of the folks who don't believe.

Jews in the holocaust, I can deny. Hitler was not Christian, although he used Christianity to reach his followers.

Christianity had nothing to do with Hiroshima/Ingaskma ( I asusme thats the Japanese/bomb thing)

KKK is just as Christian as, say, Gnostics. They are simillar, but not really Christian. KKK ,may be Christian-like, but its a different set of beliefs.

Wre do not deny scientific facts, or at least not most of them. There are theories we deny, and we certainnly work I way around scientific facts (I strongly disagree with doing this - Its shameful) but we dont deny them.

Ummm... This is trivial... But I think Bob Marley will be in hevean becasue I consider Rastafarian Christian enough to be elligable for hevean.

I know I wont change your veiws on Christianity, but please try to be more respectful. Its our choice. Believe what you want, ill believe what I want.

Why dont you tell the WHOLE story here....... Like the slave trade ?? It was their own ppl who sold them out... who do you think captured the slaves to be ?? And PLEASE do NOT call Hitler a Christian !!!!! He was 1/2 Jew, did you even know that ????? He hated that side of himself, there for he holds TOTAL accountability for the Holocaost !!! and as for the Japanese Bombing ??? It was ordered by the goverment, and who is to say that all involved were Christians...... do you have sworn and sign afidavits claiming and showing this beyond a doubt ????????????????????? and as for the Native Americans , they also turned on their own people , it was Native Americans that lead the *white eyes* into the camps .......... so PLEASE tell the whole story when you start to accuse and point the finger !!!!!!!!!!!! God bless

Last I checked, there were Christians who opposed the Holocaust and even attempted to thwart Hitler. It was a Christian who worked to stop the slave trade in England. The bomb, well that was dropped in a time of war and in war there will always be collateral damage. The question is whether it was overstepping the bounds of matching force with force. The question you need to wrestle with is how you define "Christian". I would argue for a much narrower view than what you propose. So, yes, I would not see Christians as the blame for all of the atrocities you describe.

Good grief! The NEA has really slaughtered the history books in the educational systems today if you or anyone can possibly believe that Christians are predominantly responsible for any of the above.

I unequivocally DENY it.
