im interested and wonder if the leg muscles would grow big or turn skinny when working on calves and thighs.

If you challenge muscles - they grow bigger - weights you can hardly lift - do a few reps and several sets
weights that are relatively easy to lift and you can do more than 10reps are gona only tone your muscle

calves are part of the lower leg and if you just work on calves and thighs you will certainlly grow big muscles only on certain areas of the legs. You need to do various other leg and calve exercises to get the best results

With proper diet, muscles GROW when worked to fatigue then allowed to rest and recover.
