Is there anything to do in following cities in China (yes, I have to go to these specific cities): 1) Hefei (sp?), Anqing province and 2) Guangzhou (specifically Shamain island). ANYTHING outdoorsy would be especially good, so long as there's not too much traveling involved. But really any suggestions would be awesome. Restaurants? Interesting places to see?? Things to do??? If you know of anything that maybe the travel books wouldnt tell you about, that would be really great. Thank you so much!!

There isn't anything to do in Hefei!

Hefei is located in Anhui Province, not Anqing province. Anquing is a city in souther Anhui, about two hours from Hefei by train. There is nothing to do in Anquing either.

In Hefei, you could visit Lord Bao's Tomb or walk around the city shopping centre. That's about all to do really.

For outdoorsy things in Hefei you could go outside the city limits and climb Da Sha Shan mountain, It's really a hill formed by a long dormant volcano.

don't just stay in the city or stay with a tour group. go into the country, into the small towns, into farms. many farmers open up their homes as a restaurants, so you get all kinds of chinese home cooking in the country side. and you really should do some traveling. go out west, to sichuan, that's where i'm from. or go to tibet, see the highlands. or go northwest, to see the desert. china has so much more to offer than just modern sky scrapers and fancy hotels. meet people there, talk to them, get to know the real china while you are there.

For me, I love getting to know people in China. Hire a guide to see the sites and ask her. Sometimes, guides will meet with you the next day on their own and can give you the inside scoop for much less than the rate you paid the first day.
