avoid foods high in simple carbs especially sugar
complex carbs give you energy without blood sugar fluctuations - whole wheat bread/pita/wraps/pasta, old fashioned oatmeal, fruit, wild and brown rice, protein pancakes (old fashioned oatmeal, buckwheat flour, egg whites, cottage cheese) made with pan spray and you can eat them with anything - yogurt, fruit, berries etc.

Not sure about foods FOR energy (except for healthy carbs such as pasta), but you can gain energy with addiction by subtraction by eliminating any fast food (they use something called MSG in their food that makes you feel full for an hour, but very tired too), turkey, foods that are fried or cooked with a lot of oil, food and drinks that are high in sugar - basically eat healthy and you will have a lot more energy. Someone else suggested fruits - they are high in natural sugar, but as you may know sugar comes with a crash.

It's all in what you don't eat.
esp for breakfast when your tummy is empty, don't put high fructose corn syrup, you'll be tired in 5 minutes FLAT, look at the labels, I am sure you do... just can't resist ranting about it. It makes me so mad they put it in children's cereal and dare call it healthy,, movin on.
believe it or not,, WATER gives you alot of energy, because dehydration is a big cause of fatigue, and water balances you out, cleans you out,, which gives you alot of energy.
when your system is clean of chemicals, and your sugar is balanced.
some protein in the morning (maybe an egg) or soy, and fiber and some carbohydrates(whole wheat toast) alittle fat is good, (olive oil)
If you overdo breakfast it will make your sugar dive also.
for some reason spicy food helps me, and I know it's bad, but I love coffee.
